The Student Alliance Against Neurodegenerative Disease (SAAND) is a student-led organization at the University of Florida sponsored by the McKnight Brain Institute. SAAND educates students on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, and multiple sclerosis through presentations and informational sessions led by researchers and club members. The organization is dedicated to serving the local community by volunteering in assisted living and memory care facilities. SAAND also encourages student participation in the fight against these diseases through community fundraisers, walks, and aging research involvement.

Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role based in the Gainesville Metropolitan Area for an Assistant Director of Public Relations. The Assistant Director of Public Relations will support the development and execution of public relations strategies and communications initiatives to promote the organization’s mission. Daily tasks include writing press releases, managing media relations, creating and maintaining communication channels, and fostering relationships with the university's student body, faculty, and community partners to enhance engagement with SAAND’s programs and events.

Qualifications

Strong skills in Press Releases and Media Relations creation and management

Expertise in Public Relations and strategic planning for communication initiatives

Proficiency in Communication and Strategic Communications for varied audiences

Ability to foster relationships with media, partners, and organizational stakeholders

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills

A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a relevant field

Experience in nonprofit or advocacy work is a plus

Familiarity with neurodegenerative diseases and community education initiatives is advantageous
