Civil / Structural Designer (Senior) – Marine & Heavy Civil Houston, TX (Onsite)

Orion is seeking a

Senior Civil / Structural Designer

to support the design and delivery of complex marine and heavy civil infrastructure projects in an onsite Houston-based role. This position will play a critical role in developing high-quality construction drawings and 3D models for structures such as piers, bulkheads, bridges, and terminals, while collaborating closely with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure design accuracy and constructability. The ideal candidate brings strong AutoCAD expertise, a deep understanding of structural systems and construction practices, and proven experience working on marine or heavy civil projects, with the ability to contribute both technically and through mentorship of junior staff.

Position Summary The

Senior Civil / Structural Designer

provides advanced drafting and design support for complex

marine and heavy civil infrastructure projects , including bulkheads, dolphins, trestles, bridges, piers, and terminal facilities. This role is responsible for preparing detailed construction drawings, supporting engineering design development, and ensuring all deliverables meet company quality standards. The Designer will work closely with Engineers, Project Managers, and field teams to produce accurate, constructible designs that directly support efficient project execution. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, a high level of attention to detail, and proven experience in structural design within

marine or heavy civil environments .

Key Responsibilities Provide

senior-level drafting and design support

for marine and heavy civil projects Develop

plans, sections, elevations, and detailed construction drawings

using AutoCAD and related tools Create and maintain

3D models

for new and existing structures Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure

design intent and constructability Produce

visualization materials

(renderings, sketches, diagrams) for internal and client use Identify design conflicts, constraints, and field issues, and proactively communicate solutions Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure

design integration and consistency Perform

quality control reviews

of drawings produced by junior staff Maintain drawing standards, file structures, and layer management per company guidelines Support development of

as-built drawings

using field redlines and survey data Participate in coordination meetings and provide input on

construction sequencing and execution Assist with proposal graphics, concept layouts, and presentations Mentor and guide junior designers and drafters as needed

Qualifications & Requirements 8+ years

of experience in structural design (marine, bridge, or heavy civil projects preferred) Advanced proficiency in

AutoCAD (2D & 3D) Experience with

Revit and/or Civil 3D

preferred Familiarity with

Bluebeam, Microsoft Teams , and collaborative tools Strong understanding of

construction methods, sequencing, and materials Ability to interpret

engineering sketches, calculations, and technical specifications Working knowledge of marine structures (piles, caps, decks, fender systems, mooring systems) Strong communication skills and ability to work in a

multidisciplinary team environment Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities
