Director of Operations & Technology (Brooklyn)

Always On Energy, Brooklyn, NY, United States

About Always On Energy Always On Energy is a fast-growing heat pump and weatherization contractor based in Brooklyn, NY. We install ductless mini-split heat pump systems and weatherization upgrades — insulation, air sealing, hot water heaters, and panel upgrades — across NYC's five boroughs, Long Island, and the tri-state area. We are a participating contractor with Con Edison Clean Heat, PSEG Long Island, NYSERDA Empower+, and O&R Clean Heat, which means every single job we do comes with utility rebate compliance requirements. We are doing 20+ installs per week and growing fast. This is not a company in maintenance mode. We are building our operational infrastructure in real time and we need a leader who wants to build it with us. The Role This is the most important hire we are making in 2026. We are looking for a Director of Operations & Technology who has led a field-based organization — W2 crews, subcontractors, or both — performing in-home or on-site service work. Someone who has built processes from scratch, implemented software systems, managed field crews at scale, and knows how to hold people accountable. Someone who is comfortable with technology and not afraid to own an AI-first operations build alongside a dedicated developer. If you have spent your career maintaining what someone else built at a large corporation, this is not the right role. If you have built something — fixed what was broken, implemented what did not exist, and made a fast-moving operation run better — keep reading. What You Will Own Field Operations

20+ installs per week across NYC's five boroughs and Long Island. You own scheduling, crew accountability, job completion standards, and same-day problem resolution across 40+ W2 and subcontract installers. Rebate Compliance

Every job must be correctly submitted to Con Edison, PSEG, NYSERDA, or O&R. You own the end-to-end rebate workflow — pre-approval confirmation before install, submission tracking, and cash application. You manage a Philippines-based team that executes submissions daily. Data Integrity

HouseCall Pro is our operational CRM. You own the standard for how data gets entered and enforce it across the sales team, field team, and admin. Clean data is the foundation everything else runs on. Technology Build

We are building an AI-first operations platform with a dedicated developer. You are the business owner for that build — you write requirements, review outputs, hold the developer accountable, and validate that automation produces correct operational results. Middle Management

There is a significant gap between senior leadership and field execution. You identify the gaps, build the team structure, and develop the people in it. Reporting and Visibility

You build the operational visibility layer — working alongside our incoming fractional CFO — so leadership has a real-time picture of rebate AR, job pipeline, crew utilization, and submission backlog. What We Need Required: Direct experience leading a field-based workforce performing in-home or on-site work — W2 crews, subcontractors, or both. This is non-negotiable. Office, warehouse, or call center operations management does not qualify. Demonstrated experience managing multi-team, multi-location operations running simultaneously Specific examples of building operational processes from scratch — not inheriting and maintaining existing ones Comfort with technology — you do not need to be a developer but you must be able to brief one, review technical outputs, and hold a developer accountable Experience managing people through difficult conversations, performance issues, and change Ability to work primarily on-site in Brooklyn, NY Preferred: HVAC, weatherization, solar, or home services background Experience with utility rebate or incentive compliance programs — Con Edison, PSEG, NYSERDA, or similar Experience at a PE-backed or high-growth contractor Familiarity with HouseCall Pro, ServiceTitan, Airtable, Zapier, or similar field service and automation tools What This Is Not This is not a role where you inherit a finished operation and manage it. The processes, systems, and reporting are being built right now. The person who thrives here wants to build something, has done it before, and can describe exactly what was broken and what they did about it. If that is you, we want to hear from you. Compensation and Details Base salary: $120,000 – $160,000 depending on experience Performance-based bonus tied to operational KPIs Full-time W2 On-site primary at 531 Wortman Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11208 Reports directly to James Grech, Founder & CEO Start date: As soon as possible — this search is urgent
