Schwab Asset Management is one of the industry's largest and most experienced asset managers, offering a focused lineup of competitively priced ETFs, mutual funds, and separately managed account strategies. Our Money Fund Strategies team is seeking an Associate Portfolio Manager to support the management and oversight of a Schwab Liquid Opportunities Fund investing primarily in Prime money market securities.
In this role, you'll take an active part in portfolio operations, investment execution, and continuous improvement of processes and workflows. You'll collaborate closely with Portfolio Managers and partner teams in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where curiosity, accountability, and thoughtful risk management are highly valued.
Key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
Support day-to-day portfolio management activities for the Schwab Liquid Opportunities Fund, Schwab Prime Advantage, and Schwab Ultra-Short Income ETF in an actively managed environment
Partner with Portfolio Managers on investment strategy implementation, trade idea review, and execution
Apply regulatory and compliance requirements to investment decisions and portfolio operations
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and automation across investment processes
Monitor short-term markets and evolving market dynamics, sharing insights and observations with the broader team
Contribute to market research, data analysis, and thought leadership within the Money Fund Strategies team
Prepare and maintain portfolio analytics, charts, and presentation materials used in team discussions and investment committees
What You Have
Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a quantitative, analytical, or business-related field
25 years of experience in financial markets, investments, portfolio operations, trading, or a related area
Demonstrated quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to interpret market data and assess the impact of market events
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly
Effective time management skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
Preferred qualifications
Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., MBA or CFA), or progress toward one
Experience with fixed income, money markets, liquidity products, or short-duration strategies
Exposure to investment process improvement, automation, or data-driven decision-making
