Job Description

The Director of Engineering provides leadership to a department incorporating diverse technical/engineering disciplines to accomplish business goals and objectives in the creation, production, support and promotion of industry-leading satellite communications products.

Responsibilities

  • Leads all aspects of Engineering for a Product or System from conception to end of life.

  • Directs and influences a cross functional organization to meet customer and business requirements.

  • Develops, presents, and delivers comprehensive presentations to the project team, upper management, and customer personnel in a clear and concise manner.

  • Designs, modifies, and evaluates a product from concept definition and planning through production and release.

  • Serves as the central resource for design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, and marketing as the product.

  • Plans and manages schedules and budgets.

  • Monitors the product/project from initiation through completion and/or customer acceptance.

  • Ensures completion of the product/project on schedule and within budget constraints.

  • Ensures that products/projects delivered meet customer requirements and specifications.

  • Develops, manages, and maintains all aspects of project-level risks, including mitigation, costing, and planning.

  • Develops statements of work for subcontractors and ensures performance of those subcontractors.

  • Estimates resource and material needs for the project/product.

  • Develops, monitors, and status detailed MS Project schedules.

  • Responsible for driving Engineering technical content, write-ups and estimations in response to proposals (RFP), information (RFI) and White Papers (WP).

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields with 15 years of project engineering or related experience, or MS Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields with 13 years of project engineering or related experience with a technical background on engineering-focused developments and leadership.

  • Ability to obtain US Security Clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Experience with tactical very small aperture terminals (VSAT) and embeddable modem technologies.

  • Experience in leading product design & development effort.

  • Experience in managing cross-functional / cross-discipline teams.

  • Secret security clearance desired.

  • Experience working proposals.

  • Experience supporting government customers.

  • Experience with design for test and design for manufacturability techniques.

  • Experience in Root Cause Corrective Action process and techniques.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a technical information environment.

  • Experience with Satellite Communications.

  • Ability to lead and drive a team providing technical leadership, mentorship, guidance, and direction to execute project initiatives to the targeted scope, budget, and schedule.

  • Ability to clearly articulate direction, status, issues, risks, and opportunities, to team, peers, leadership, business counterparts and customers.

  • Ability to develop and lead an engaged cross discipline team, that excels at team collaboration, trust, and open communications.

  • Ability to clearly articulate plans, status, and technical direction both in written and verbal form.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $152,500 – $283,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
