The Administrative Office of the Courts and Probation (AOCP) is accepting applications for a full time District Courtroom Clerk/Official Court Reporter in the Douglas County District Court, 4th Judicial District. Under direct supervision of District Court Judge Michael Jensen, this is a responsible paraprofessional position. The work involves verbatim reporting and transcribing for court proceedings, hearings and conferences.

Responsibilities
The position reports directly to District Court Judge Michael Jensen and involves courtroom work related to capturing and maintaining a verbatim record of court proceedings and other matters of increased complexity. Specific duties include operating electronic recording equipment, logging proceedings, and maintaining court records. District Court Courtroom Clerk duties include entering case information in DOCKET (JUSTICE), logging exhibits, tracking session times, and assisting in preparing Judge's Orders and other official records. For stenographic reporters, equipment and software may be provided by AOCP; digital reporters receive an audio recording system and related components.

Court Reporter I

Court Reporter II : provide real time records for trials, hearings, or conferences; read back transcripts; transcribe proceedings; review and certify transcripts; operate and log digital recording equipment; identify participants; prepare and file transcripts and related documents; maintain files and records; perform clerical duties and attend trainings.
Advancement
ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITY: This position is eligible to advance to an Official Court Reporter I. The AOCP provides online education and reimbursement for certifications to support advancement. In addition, an increase in compensation as a Court Reporter I and potential additional income from transcripts may apply.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
District Court Courtroom Clerk : High School graduation or equivalent and 2 years of courtroom clerk experience. Education above the high school level may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
Court Reporter I : demonstrate professional competence as defined in Nebraska Supreme Court Rules Relating to Court Reporting Personnel; 1-204(A)(2) and 1-204(B) or (C). Those entities approved by the State Court Administrator include the National Court Reporting Association (NCRA), the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT), a state court-reporting certification with requirements equivalent to those of the NCRA, or official documentation from a court reporting school verifying those skills upon graduation. For multichannel digital recorder users, pass AAERT CER and CET tests in compliance with Nebraska rules to be classified as Court Reporter I.
Court Reporter II : demonstrate professional competence as defined in Nebraska Supreme Court Rules Relating to Court Reporting Personnel; 1-204(A)(2) and 1-204(B) with certification as a Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) through NCRA or Federal Certified Realtime Reporter (FCRR) or equivalent. All educational credits must be from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
Preferred Qualifications
Legal experience. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred but not required.

District Court Courtroom Clerk: Successful completion of on-the-job training in JUSTICE within six months of hire; must demonstrate professional competence as defined in Nebraska Supreme Court Rules Relating to Court Reporting Personnel (1-204 F) with listed criteria and ability to diagnose and correct routine malfunctions; may involve late hours and fast-paced environment.
Court Reporter I and II: Must demonstrate professional competence as defined in Nebraska Supreme Court Rules Relating to Court Reporting Personnel (1-204 E). Travel may be required; extended sitting and repetitive motions possible.

Knowledge of court recording equipment and basic JUSTICE/DOCKET functions. Ability to navigate court system interfaces and promote a proper court atmosphere.
Court Reporter I and II: Knowledge of Computer Aided Transcription software; familiarity with legal, medical, and technical terminology; knowledge of recording equipment; secretarial practices; office systems; word processing and internet software; court rules and vocabulary; recordkeeping; transcription accuracy; proofreading and editorial skills; strong written and oral communication; interpersonal skills.
