Vice President, Casualty Treaty Underwriter
You will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of casualty treaty reinsurance business, ensuring alignment with SiriusPoint’s risk appetite and strategic objectives. You will evaluate submissions, analyze cedant data, assess pricing and loss trends, and structure treaty terms while participating in negotiations. You will report to the Head of US Casualty Reinsurance Underwriting.
Responsibilities
Underwrite and service a proportional US casualty treaty portfolio (GL, Excess/Umbrella, WC, Professional Lines) consistent with underwriting authority, SiriusPoint global and product underwriting guidelines, and the approved business plan.
Evaluate submissions, analyze cedant performance, exposures, and loss experience and partner closely with actuarial to support reinsurance pricing, exercising disciplined underwriting judgment and applying an understanding of pricing assumptions and sensitivities.
Review, negotiate and finalize treaty wordings in close collaboration with legal, ensuring consistency between intent, pricing, structure and contractual terms.
Monitor performance, accumulations, concentrations, and volatility drivers; identify emerging risks, outliers and optimisation opportunities across cedants, segments and structures.
Lead renewal planning and execution, including deal strategy, file preparation, timely quotes and referrals, while maintaining clear and responsive broker communication.
Build and maintain strong broker and cedant relationships, support new business development and represent SiriusPoint in client meetings and industry events.
Participate in and complete underwriting audits and reviews, responding to findings, providing documentation and analysis and supporting remediation actions to strengthen underwriting outcomes.
Contribute to technical underwriting excellence by sharing market insights, supporting tool development, improving data quality and promoting analytical rigor and operational excellence.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior underwriters, contributing to capability development and underwriting consistency.
Adhere to sensible, repeatable operating standards to ensure compliance with underwriting authorities, governance standards and internal controls, producing clear and complete underwriting files and management information.
Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
5‑7 years experience in reinsurance and/or casualty underwriting (treaty preferred, other strong relevant experience considered).
Experience structuring and negotiating appropriate casualty treaty terms and conditions in collaboration with actuarial, legal and other functional areas.
Strong analytical, communication and negotiation skills; able to present underwriting rationale clearly and manage multiple renewals in a deadline‑driven environment.
Proficiency with Excel and data analysis; comfortable working with underwriting systems and portfolio tools.
Progress toward, or interest in pursuing, relevant designations (e.g., ARe, CPCU, RPLU) is an asset.
