
Senior Billing Specialist
Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY, United States
Job Summary: Assign accurate medical codes using American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) guidelines and standards (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS). Review clinical documentation to ensure coding accuracy and completeness. Submit insurance claims electronically and monitor claim status. Follow up on denied or rejected claims and prepare appeals as needed.
Responsibilities
Ensure claims are submitted correctly the first time to minimize rework.
Communicate with payers to resolve billing issues.
Stay updated on coding changes, payer policies, and regulatory updates.
Complete other assigned billing tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from American Academy of Professional Coders or equivalent (e.g., CCS).
High school diploma or equivalent.
13+ years of medical billing and coding experience.
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems.
Familiarity with EHR and billing software systems.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications Work Days: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
