Job Summary
This designer position will be responsible for creating all documentation required to build new products as well as updating and maintaining drawings as directed by the Department. The candidate will also integrate and standardize new products within company systems, interpret Bills of Materials, and determine necessary views and information to communicate with Plant Engineering and Manufacturing.
Position Responsibilities
Acquire knowledge needed for successful accomplishment of duties.
Support project engineers in selecting standard OEM components, creating fabrication and assembly drawings based on accurate 3D models, and maintaining accurate product structures for new and existing products.
Prepare complete, accurate sets of drawings including BOMs, technical layouts, multiple views, detail drawings, assembly drawings, cross‑sectional and sub‑assembly drawings.
Create accurate 3D models, determine appropriate views, and prepare final drawings and supplementary information required to complete assignments.
Utilize mathematical formulas to compute weights, load capacities, dimensions, material quantities, and related parameters.
Interact with internal staff and vendors on technical issues regarding parts, design, usage, and specifications.
Learn the ERP system to accurately retrieve part numbers and load BOMs for production.
Maintain an organized workflow so all required documentation is sent to other departments efficiently.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: 2‑3 year degree or certificate in Mechanical Drafting/Design or equivalent (preferred).
Experience: At least 3 years working with mechanical systems and equipment.
Software: Minimum 3 years of industry experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD; working knowledge of each is required. Experience with Autodesk Vault is also preferred.
Assets
Experience with ASME pressure vessel design and documentation (Section I and IV).
Experience with threaded and welded piping.
Experience designing and documenting sheet metal parts.
Knowledge of welding and pressure vessel code requirements.
Preferred Skills
Sound working knowledge of mechanics.
Knowledge of machining processes, sheet metal fabrication, welding, materials, industrial piping, and pressure vessels.
Ability to understand project objectives and communicate effectively to complete tasks.
Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
Capability to work in both a normal office and a development lab environment with running equipment.
Highly organized and detail oriented.
Consistently meets deadlines with high accuracy.
Capable of working with minimal supervision.
Imaginative and creative.
