Job Summary
Supports the day‑to‑day operations of the Customer Service Team in promoting sales, obtaining orders, and providing service to our customers. Tasks include order entry, billing, technical inquiry follow‑up, report maintenance, and support for marketing and product development.
Essential Functions
Work closely with sales and marketing staff to meet and exceed branch sales and gross profit objectives.
Obtain orders and provide proactive customer service, including order entry, expediting, pricing, returns, delivery coordination, and follow‑up on inquiries.
Provide timely follow‑up on customer technical inquiries and requests.
Maintain Open Order Reports, Billing Block Reports, and other necessary reports consistently.
Actively participate in the marketing and sale of Border States’ products and services.
Consistently provide responsive, quality service to exceed customer expectations.
Provide input to BSE personnel on customer needs or concerns regarding pricing, inventory, products, competition, and procedures.
Coordinate with Customer Financial Services to resolve customer‑billing problems arising from pricing, shipping, delivery, or other credit errors.
Provide input to pricing and purchasing areas on product evaluations, code descriptions, inventory management, and pricing development.
Non‑Essential Functions
Attend sales meetings and training programs as required.
Assist with sales meetings and trade shows as needed.
Develop quotations and request bid or performance bonds for customers within company profit objectives and guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimum of a two‑year business/trade degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
At least two years of customer service, city desk, or sales experience with strong knowledge of electrical products and systems preferred.
Technical ability to understand electrical systems; a minimum of two years of prior electrical distribution experience preferred.
Ability to read, write, and speak in English preferred.
Strong working knowledge of PC for Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Internet, e‑mail, and SAP software.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent customer service skills include accuracy, responsiveness, and engagement.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, reading, and customer service abilities preferred.
Ability to effectively plan and organize.
Physical Requirements
Lifting: 0–33% of the day involves lifting 0‑33 lbs. occasionally.
Lifting from floor: 10‑25 lbs. frequently; 26‑50 lbs. occasionally.
Carrying: typically not more than 25 lbs. irrespective of frequency.
Standing: frequently.
Walking: frequently.
Bending/stooping: occasionally.
Climbing/stairs: frequently.
Reaching: frequently.
Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, fingers: continuously.
Talking, desk work, computer and telephone use, hearing: continuously.
