The Royal Group, an affiliate of Schwarz Partners, is currently seeking a Graphic Designer – Prepress Specialist to support our Indianapolis, IN facility. The Graphic Designer – Digital Prepress is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and optimizing artwork for production on the Xceed Digital Press. This role is focused on making sure files are accurate, press‑ready, and set up to run efficiently with consistent, high‑quality output.
This person will be the on‑site resource at the press, helping connect design intent with what actually works in production. Success in this role comes down to strong prepress knowledge, attention to detail, proactive communication with customers, and the ability to keep multiple jobs moving in a fast‑paced environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION
Prepress & File Preparation
Prepare and finalize customer artwork for digital print production on the Xceed press.
Adjust artwork as needed to meet press and substrate requirements.
Manage color setup and consistency across jobs.
Set up files properly for RIP and digital press workflow.
Catch and resolve issues before they hit the press to avoid rework or downtime.
Generate and review proofs prior to production.
Serve as the primary prepress/graphics resource at the digital press.
Work directly with operators to make sure files run cleanly and efficiently.
Troubleshoot issues at press (color, scaling, alignment, file errors).
Ensure files are press‑ready and prioritized to support efficient production flow.
Workflow & Coordination
Manage multiple jobs at once in a deadline‑driven environment.
Keep files organized with clear naming, structure, and version control.
Coordinate with design, sales, and customer service across sites to clarify requirements.
Communicate early when issues could impact timelines.
Quality Control
Perform detailed checks for image quality and print issues.
Ensure files meet internal standards and customer expectations.
Maintain accuracy to reduce waste, errors, and press downtime.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field (or equivalent experience).
2–5+ years in prepress, production art, or a print environment.
Experience in corrugated, packaging, or digital print ideal but not required.
Experience working directly with press operators or production equipment is ideal but not required.
PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
Technical (Critical)
Experience in prepress and print production workflows.
Strong understanding of: Bleed, trim, and live areas, die lines and structural integration, color setup, correction, and management, file prep for digital print and RIP systems.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator (primary), Photoshop, and Acrobat.
Ability to troubleshoot file and print issues independently.
Core Competencies
High attention to detail (this is critical in this role).
Ability to manage multiple priorities without losing accuracy.
Organized and consistent with file management.
Problem‑solver with a production‑first mindset.
Comfortable working both at a desk and on the production floor.
Clear communicator across production, design, and sales.
Preferred Experience

Basic understanding of structural design and die lines.
