Overview

NELSON is currently seeking a Technical Designer III to join our Industrial Practice. The Technical Designer III is responsible for developing, organizing, and executing the development of construction documents using creativity, foresight, and judgment to meet project requirements and objectives through project completion. Projects include: industrial buildings, warehouses, distribution centers, logistics facilities, etc.
Responsibilities

Lead, facilitate and manage the overall design process for moderately complex projects independently and support larger complex projects under supervision.
Contribute to developing fee proposals.
Develop innovative design concepts which are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function which reflects client goals and within project budget.
Selection and specification of materials, products, and architectural systems.
Support the Project Manager in establishing project goals and objectives including workplan, schedule, budget parameters.
Assist Project Manager in sub-contracting or the coordination of sub-consultants’ work.
Serve as team lead in keeping the project, or a phase of a project, on schedule in conjunction with Project Manager.
Communicate and coordinate with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provide support as necessary.
Lead the Construction Administration phase, responding to RFIs and COs, reviewing shop drawings, and participating in field site reviews.
Ensure project documentation is compliant with Nelson standards for all projects and processes.
May assist with negotiating fees and sub-contracts.
Develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
Prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings.
Provide research and compile data during project phases.
Prepare and modify interior architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc.
Support the team in collecting information for client assessment; may attend interviews and provide documentation support.
Conduct design charrettes and lead project team meetings.
Complete timesheet and expense reports accurately and on time.
Required Knowledge and Skills

Advanced knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness; consistently share such knowledge with teammates.
Advanced knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precise plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Advanced knowledge of furniture, fixture and equipment (FF&E), architectural/interior finishes, lighting, art signage, color and materials to carry out design intent.
Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
Knowledge of expectations related to high quality service to clients.
Good understanding of building regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirements.
Good understanding of the construction process and related project budgets and schedules.
Ability to hand draw and sketch.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet identified timeframes.
Ability to manage time working to project deadlines.
Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and InDesign graphic software (preferred).
Basic proficiency in Deltek Vision / Vantagepoint (preferred).
Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop and Revit (required).
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or related field.
8+ years of experience, or equivalent in education and experience in the field of Architecture.
Proficiency in both Revit and AutoCAD required.
Compensation and Benefits

National salary range (8+ years experience): $70,000-$110,000 (regional cost of living factors, certification, etc. are considered in the hiring process). Additional compensation includes bonuses and benefits. Bonuses can include but are not limited to: Long Term Incentive Plan, Short Term Incentive Plan, Profit Sharing.
