What You'll Do
As a Senior Product Manager within Principal Asset Management, you’ll drive initiatives supporting our Multi‑Asset Investment team, partnering closely with investment professionals and global technology teams. This role leads complex, high‑impact products that span multiple lines of business and serve as critical tools for portfolio management, trading, and investment research.
You’ll operate end‑to‑end across the product lifecycle — from defining strategy and roadmap through discovery and delivery — while helping shape a new operating model that strengthens how product and technology partners collaborate.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
Define and communicate a clear product vision, strategy, and roadmap for in‑house and vendor solutions supporting multi‑asset portfolio management, trading, and research capabilities
Partner closely with engineering, architecture, and business stakeholders to deliver solutions aligned to investment operations, portfolio management workflows, and strategic business outcomes
Use metrics, analytics, and customer insights to guide decisions, monitor product health, and find opportunities for innovation, improvement, and modernization
Communicate product updates, timelines, risks, and dependencies to internal partners and senior leaders
Act as a senior product leader and mentor, helping support team growth during a period of operational and organizational transformation
Who You Are
6+ years of business, technology, or product management experience; or equivalent demonstrated through the following: work experience, military experience, or education
3+ years working in a highly collaborative, fast‑paced environment with engineering teams and partners while managing multiple products
Strong experience with modern product management practices, including discovery, product strategy and delivery against product outcomes
Proven ability to lead, influence, and negotiate with partners at all levels of the organization
Strong strategic thinking, decision‑making, and relationship‑building skills, with a focus on driving outcomes
Proven experience using diverse perspectives, data, and insights to inform product decisions
Experience mentoring or coaching others in a professional setting
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and change, particularly within evolving operating models
Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
Product management experience within asset management, investment management, or investment operations
Knowledge of multi‑asset investment strategies, portfolio management systems, trading workflows, and investment research platforms
Experience working with portfolio and order management systems (e.g., Bloomberg, Charles River)
Global product or global operating model experience
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non‑sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non‑Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
$130,000 - $171,000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short‑term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers in‑office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
