Slingshot Memphis
Slingshot Memphis is a nonprofit professional services firm that is revolutionizing poverty-fighting effectiveness. Our analytical and outcomes-driven approaches help ensure people experiencing poverty receive the most effective interventions to enable them to thrive.
Unlike business, medicine, and many other sectors that have established, objective processes for measuring outcomes, the poverty-fighting ecosystem hasn't developed these same standards. This has made it nearly impossible to know which programs and services most effectively reduce the social and economic gaps in Memphis, TN. Slingshot has addressed this by developing a new, standardized methodology to measure poverty-fighting effectiveness.
Slingshot’s service lines (program evaluation & improvement, philanthropic allocation advisory, and social impact projects) help us achieve three primary objectives in order to realize our mission:
Equip decision-makers with the insights and tools to make more evidence-based decisions
Increase the allocation of financial resources to the most effective poverty-fighting efforts
Improve the effectiveness and outcomes of poverty-fighting efforts
Each of our service lines is enabled by the knowledge and insights derived from our proprietary poverty-fighting impact studies. These are 3–5 month projects with poverty-fighting organizations to evaluate their effectiveness and measure their impact. The results of the impact studies identify opportunities that can enhance the outcomes poverty-fighting organizations create for their participants, help philanthropists identify nonprofits that are best positioned to achieve their desired objectives, and identify the root causes that decision-makers need to address to see lasting change.
Director of Social Impact Projects
Slingshot seeks a driven project management professional to conduct projects that produce significant social impact. These discrete projects “activate” stakeholders to implement the knowledge Slingshot has developed to effectively address social challenges connected to poverty. The Director of Social Impact Projects is responsible for managing multiple projects at a time to ensure project objectives are achieved by developing and executing project plans, coordinating the work of Slingshot’s team and partner organizations, owning specific project workstreams, and helping manage relationships with key project stakeholders.
Design, implement, and manage project plans for multiple projects at a time
Ensure project milestones and objectives are achieved within necessary timelines by coordinating numerous workstreams and overcoming challenges that arise
Lead the problem solving across projects, incorporating relevant internal and external experts, to ensure the most effective solutions are reached
Own specific workstreams within project plans, including responsibilities such as data analysis, primary and secondary research, and creating presentations, among others
Facilitate meetings with project stakeholders to maintain alignment, share insights, problem solve solutions, and address challenges that might arise
Create high‑quality project deliverables that empower organizations to implement and execute the final conclusions of a project
Develop and maintain strong relationships with project partner organizations
Support the leadership team in developing new project opportunities by meeting with business, government, and philanthropic leaders and drafting project proposals
Qualifications
Passion for solving social challenges, innovating new solutions, and building equity
Mature project management capabilities in designing and executing project plans
Exceptional relationship management skills that incorporate advanced emotional intelligence, empathy, and the ability to work with diverse personalities
Comfort with ambiguity and bringing structure to entirely new opportunities
Strong organization skills to efficiently and effectively manage multiple projects
Experience using research and quantitative analysis to inform decision-making
Demonstrated rigor and quality of work, including excellent attention to detail
Experience with presentation design, meeting facilitation, and public speaking
Strong self‑awareness and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team
At least 10 years of project‑related work experience, including direct responsibility for managing project plans and accountability for achieving project objectives
Relevant postgraduate degree required
