ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY

The Statewide Guardian Ad Litem Office assigns a multi-disciplinary team consisting of a guardian ad litem attorney, a child welfare professional, and a community volunteer or pro bono attorney to represent each child. The Child Advocate Manager serves as the child welfare professional on the team and is responsible for overseeing a team of guardian ad litem volunteers assigned to individual cases.

19% of your total compensation comes from benefits. As a full‑time OPS employee, single coverage is $50 per month and family coverage is $180 per month.

ABOUT THE WORK

The Child Advocate Manager’s responsibilities include consultative, administrative, and advocacy activities and may also supervise a group of Guardian Ad Litem Office volunteers. Typical duties:

Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, management, Department of Children and Families, contracted service providers, Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Education, Law Enforcement, and others.

Oversee the work of guardian ad litem volunteers.

Gather and document independent case information.

Provide best‑interest advocacy recommendations to the team, the court, and child welfare partners.

Prepare written reports for the court.

Provide testimony in court sessions.

Attend internal and external case‑related hearings, depositions, case plan conferences, dependency mediations, and staff meetings.

Visit and contact assigned children, parents, caregivers, schools, and service providers.

Use the organization’s database and reporting systems.

Participate in training, meetings, and conferences.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Bachelor’s degree (or related experience) in sociology, social work, psychology, child development, education, juvenile justice, communications, or a related social science.

Experience as a child protective investigator, dependency case manager, juvenile probation officer, law enforcement, military, educator, or other professional working with children and families.

Two years of experience in a child welfare, social service, counseling, teaching, managing people, or supervising volunteers (desired).

Experience in decision‑making, planning, organizing, coaching, leading, or supervising.

For hires after February 1, 2020, ability to obtain Child Advocate Manager Certification within 12 months of hire date; certification maintenance required. Agency pays certification costs.
