Director of Music/Organist - St. Luke, Chardon
St. Luke Episcopal Church, a small but active parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, seeks a musician to play its 2023 2 manual, 8 rank Hemry organ and Steinway piano for regular and special services of worship. The parish does not have a choir currently, nor any immediate plan for one, but remains open to the possibility of new music activities at some future time as interest and opportunity allow.

Position Description
The musician will report to the Rector, and will be responsible for:

Playing for weekly services (10:15 a.m. Sunday) including:

Hymns and service music as selected collaboratively by organist and Rector.

Voluntaries for prelude, offertory, communion, and postlude.

Playing for major Christian festivals and other special services including (but not limited to):

Christmas Eve/Day, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter, and occasional evensong services.

First right of refusal for weddings and funerals/memorial services. Compensation is provided separately, at the rate of $200 per service, $100 per rehearsal.

Arranging for acceptable substitutes, subject to the Rector's approval.

Regular communication and consultation with the Rector on matters of schedule, services, music selection, and maintenance of the parish's musical instruments.

Other mutually agreed upon responsibilities.

The parish anticipates a year-round, salaried position, with four Sundays per year of paid leave. The parish is open to the possibility of a part-year schedule that accommodates academic schedules.

Salary is a minimum $10,000 per year, negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

Candidates will be asked to audition and will be subject to a background check. The successful candidate will be required to complete Safe Church training.
