IT & Security Consultant (Pre-Sales)
Impact Networking, LLC., Madison, WI, United States
Impact exists because a small group of industry leaders believed companies in our space were doing it wrong. Many prioritized margins while the people doing the work and the clients relying on it became an afterthought. Impact was built differently: invest in great people, trust them to do great work, and deliver the kind of service clients remember. That approach helped us grow from a small office technology company into a national managed services provider, while remaining privately owned and people-first.
What makes Impact special is that growth has never come at the expense of the values that got us here. We continue to reinvest in our people, our capabilities, and the opportunities ahead so employees can grow alongside the business. We’ve built something special, but we’re far from finished. The people who join Impact now will help define what comes next.
Job Overview
Consultants serve as strategic advisors and hands‑on technologists, partnering with business and IT leaders to assess current-state environments, identify risk and operational gaps, and develop practical roadmaps that improve security, reliability, and the end‑user experience.
Working alongside sales and engineering teams, you lead structured discovery using Impact’s Business Transformation Assessment (BTA) approach, then translate findings into a clear managed services program (fully managed or co‑managed) aligned to client outcomes, supportability, and long‑term value.
The ideal candidate brings experience building and operating IT and security environments, along with the consultative skill to explain tradeoffs, build alignment, and guide clients through change.
Responsibilities
Lead discovery workshops with executive and technical stakeholders to understand business goals, current‑state operations, risk tolerance, and constraints.
Own the technical direction of the Business Transformation Assessment (BTA): coordinate data collection, validate findings, and develop a prioritized remediation and modernization roadmap.
Translate technical findings into client‑ready recommendations, including clear options, assumptions, scope boundaries, and expected outcomes tailored for both executive and engineering audiences.
Design managed services solutions (fully managed and co‑managed) across infrastructure, endpoint, cloud, identity, backup/DR, and security, ensuring supportability and operational fit.
Partner with delivery teams (Service Desk, TOC, Tech Ops, TAM/vCIO, Security Operations) to validate feasibility, define responsibilities, and set onboarding and steady‑state expectations.
Position and scope SOC‑backed security services (e.g., MDR/XDR, email security and investigation, vulnerability remediation, security awareness) and align response workflows and reporting expectations.
Create and review proposals, statement‑of‑work inputs, and solution documentation (including diagrams, requirements, and scope language) to drive accurate delivery and client alignment.
Support opportunity strategy with Sales: qualify fit, lead technical win plans, and deliver executive‑level presentations and solution reviews.
Enable internal teams through knowledge sharing: contribute to playbooks, talk tracks, and training so Sales and delivery teams can consistently position and deliver solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
7+ years in IT and/or cybersecurity with responsibilities progressing from hands–on technical to strategy and leadership.
Demonstrated ability to lead discovery, translate technical complexity into clear recommendations, and present to executive and technical audiences.
Strong working knowledge across core IT domains: networking, Windows/Linux fundamentals, endpoint management, identity, and backup/DR.
Working knowledge of modern security concepts and operations: EDR/MDR/XDR, email‑borne threats and investigation, vulnerability management and patch lifecycles, incident response fundamentals, and security governance basics.
Experience in managed services or consulting environments a plus.
Comfort collaborating cross‑functionally with Sales, delivery teams, and partners to design solutions that are technically sound and operationally supportable.
Relevant certifications (preferred, not required): Security+, Network+, Microsoft, Cisco, AWS/Azure, CISSP, CISM, or equivalent.

The typical base salary range for this role is $130,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skillset, experience and training, licensures and/or certifications, and other organizational needs.
