This position is based on Stanford’s main campus with consideration given to a hybrid work schedule, subject to operational need.

Strategic Partnerships Lead – Precourt Institute for Energy
The Precourt Institute for Energy within the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability seeks an individual to serve as the Strategic Partnerships Lead. This role operates within the STEER initiative, focusing on scouting, business development, and partnership management to advance STEER’s analytical value proposition.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and develop relationships with industry leaders; maintain a CRM/database of prospective and current partners.

Identify emerging technology interests, policy developments, and market shifts that inform STEER’s strategic priorities.

Manage strategic identification of white spaces for STEER’s analytical approach, including the intersection of horizontals and technology verticals.

Develop strategic landscaping white papers and framing documents for new analytical or convening opportunities.

Activate STEER’s analysis and strategy staff to translate market signals into actionable analytical products.

Manage sourcing and development of new Industrial Affiliates Program (IAP) members.

Maintain regular communication with partners to align technical workstreams with stakeholder needs.

Connect STEER’s analytical staff with industry partners to incorporate real‑world feedback into research.

Manage strategic planning and reporting cycles across STEER working groups.

Translate complex technical findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences.

Design and manage high‑level executive convenings such as roundtables, forums, and summits that engage industry and government leaders.

Translate convening outcomes into executive summaries, internal strategy documents, and external briefings.

Lead planning and operations for high‑impact programs or functions requiring subject‑matter expertise.

Evaluate programs or functions, review trends, and develop recommendations to achieve or modify goals.

Represent the program or function within the department and at the university level.

Contribute to outreach strategy, including relationship development, communications, and compliance.

Develop and oversee budgets, including monitoring, forecasting, and reporting.

Assess training needs and develop associated training.

Direct and supervise staff as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage shifting priorities, and handle multiple time‑sensitive projects.

Ability to accomplish goals through formal and informal channels with diplomacy and tactfulness.

Demonstrated creativity, problem‑solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment, and decision‑making skills.

Experience developing and meeting budget goals.

Strong planning and organizational skills.

Experience working independently and as part of a team.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Strong subject‑matter knowledge relevant to the field.

Ability to direct the work of others as required.

Desired Qualifications

Experience building strategic partnerships across academia, industry, and government.

Strong understanding of the energy technology ecosystem, including storage, nuclear, hydrogen, geothermal, and carbon management.

Experience developing thought‑leadership materials such as white papers and strategic frameworks.

Proven ability to organize and manage high‑level executive events or cross‑sector initiatives.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conveying technical and strategic ideas to diverse audiences.

Strategic thinker capable of linking technological innovation with economic and policy considerations.

Enthusiasm for working with students and the ability to mentor and guide them.

Desired Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy systems, economics, business, or a related field.

Master’s degree or equivalent experience (e.g., MBA, MS in Energy Resources Engineering, or MS in Management Science & Engineering) highly preferred.

Prior experience in research institutes, think tanks, or technology commercialization environments.

Compensation and Benefits
Expected pay range: $120,038 to $153,486 per annum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges as a good‑faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The final pay will be based on scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications, budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and market data.
