
Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Job Summary
Michigan Public, a service of the University of Michigan, is looking for a Marketing and Communications Coordinator. This full‑time position reports to the Marketing and Communications Supervisor and involves supporting marketing and communications for the station, including daily activities and long‑term projects that align with institutional plans. The role requires collaborating with teams across the organization, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and enjoying a creative environment that values strong writing and design skills.
Responsibilities
Communications
Communicate information about station projects to staff and listeners via email, Slack, and meetings.
Support external promotional activities, including outreach to stakeholders, partners, media, and the general public.
Write and edit marketing and communications materials such as electronic newsletters, web posts, and database entries for listener records.
Respond to questions from listeners, sponsors, and donors.
Assist with the creation and distribution of press releases and maintain contact information.
Manage Trade projects, including drafting Trade Requests, agreements, and ensuring compliance with station policies. Create trade announcements and submit them for approval and prepare traffic orders for the Marketron system.
Recruit staff members to host or emcee station events and provide necessary talking points.
Maintain accurate inventory of station promotional items.
Obtain price quotes, order fund‑drive thank‑you gifts and promotional items, and assist with fulfillment as needed.
Marketing
Perform administrative tasks supporting marketing plans and projects, including outreach to stakeholders, partners, media, and the public.
Maintain the website community calendar and events page.
Monitor activities and results of marketing and communications programs.
Plan and support listener‑focused special events (in person and online), handling catering, venues, audio/visual and IT needs, streaming setup, and travel.
Provide on‑site coverage for events, including setup, breakdown, and staff support.
Design posters, flyers, digital signage, event programs, itineraries, and other materials to support events and projects.
Coordinate printing of designed materials and ensure final product quality.
Post events and marketing projects on Facebook and other social media platforms.
Create and monitor online registration/ticketing processes (Eventbrite, Constant Contact, etc.).
Promote Michigan Public to all audiences, grow vertical products such as It’s Just Politics, The Environment Report, On Hand, and Stateside, and assist membership initiatives.
Possibly build, market, and execute specific projects or events.
Identify marketing opportunities and collaborate with editorial, engineering, and development teams.
Perform any other marketing tasks as needed.
Workplace
Participate in Marketing, Newsroom, and quarterly all‑staff meetings; communicate inter‑office updates.
Meet administrative deadlines for time cards, expense reimbursements, and conflict‑of‑interest forms.
Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance marketing and communications skills.
Be available after business hours and on weekends for online information sessions and special events.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
2–3 years of experience organizing and coordinating events, public relations, or related program management.
Experience with online event platforms such as Eventbrite, Zoom, and Streamyard.
Experience using social media for community building and event promotion.
Experience with graphic design software such as Canva and knowledge of design best practices.
Proficiency in SignNow, Zoom, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office suites.
Experience with Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or other database platforms.
Website maintenance experience.
Consistent accuracy and strong communication, writing, and organization skills.
Collaborative spirit and ability to work cross‑functionally with editorial, engineering, and development teams.
Passion for public media and belief in the value of independent journalism.
