Shift Assignments

1st shift paid the base hourly rate.

2nd shift paid the base hourly rate ($43.82) plus a 5% shift differential.

3rd shift paid the base hourly rate ($43.82) plus a 10% shift differential.

Scope of Work
The HVAC Mechanic, Lead serves as lead worker for assigned HVAC Mechanics and performs HVAC installations, services, and repairs of environmental‑control systems using refrigeration theory.

Responsibilities

Facilitate, conduct follow‑up inspections, and report all HVAC mechanic tasks as directed.

Pipefitting and structural layout.

Mount compressor and condenser units on platform or floor using hand tools.

Follow blueprints or engineering specifications.

Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts.

Use portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.

Install evaporator unit in chassis or air‑duct system using hand tools.

Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape; thread pipes using machine or hand‑threading equipment.

Join tubing or pipes to refrigeration units using sleeves, couplings, or unions; solder joints with a torch.

Form complete refrigerant circuit and install expansion and discharge valves.

Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and fans to control panels and power source.

Install air and water filters.

Inject small amounts of refrigerant and add Freon to achieve prescribed pressure.

Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.

Test joints and connections for gas leaks.

Wrap pipe in insulation batting and secure with cement or wire bands.

Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and wiring.

May install, repair, and service air conditioners up to 20 tons cooling capacity.

Perform minor painting chores for preventive maintenance.

Perform preventive maintenance functions such as changing filters, cleaning coils, cleaning drains, and changing light bulbs as needed.

Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must hold a Journeyman HVAC license in Virginia.

Must be Universal CFC certified.

Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.

Knowledge of EMS for operational changes to remote HVAC equipment.

Advanced knowledge of all HVAC cycles and components, including electronic circuitry, high/low voltage, pneumatic and electronic control systems.

Availability 24‑hour on call for emergency repairs to critical equipment.

Strong technical skills to complete installations and repairs with minimal supervision.

Working knowledge of related trades: sheet metal, fire dampers, plumbing, water and steam systems, and electrical control devices.

Proficient in soldering and brazing.

Proficiency with test equipment: volt‑meters, ammeters, probes, psychrometers, capacitors, leak detectors, micrometers, CO₂ testers, vacuum gauges, and meggers.

Knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and safety practices.

Valid state driver’s license and safe driving record to operate vehicles or equipment as required.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Physical effort and conditions: ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, walk extensively, use hand tools, work in hazardous positions, carry up to 100 lbs, and handle potentially dangerous tasks involving electrical shock, burns, refrigerant gases, acids, seams, and confined spaces.

Must be able to work on‑call, alternate, and extended shift schedules including weekends and holidays.

Work may be indoors or outdoors in varying weather; must use appropriate PPE.

Benefits
Health & Welfare: $8.00 per hour up to 40 hours per week.
