
Temporary Summer Event & Marketing Coordinator

General Purpose
The Temporary Summer Event & Marketing Coordinator will support the Community & Economic Development Office with the extensive summer programming on the Church Street Marketplace and in City Hall Park. The Church Street Marketplace District is a business improvement district created in 1981, that includes the public street and all properties that abut Church Street between Pearl and Main Streets. Each year we host some 1.5 million visitors to shop, eat, meet and greet, mark milestones, or just pass the time of day. The Marketplace hosts 30+ events annually including signature events like the Annual Sidewalk Sale, Festival of Fools, and the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival.
The Coordinator will work closely with the Community & Economic Development Office Assistant Director to host and execute a number of public events and programs from June through early October. Responsibilities include supporting weekly Party on the Bricks events, Imagination Station playtime for kids, the annual Sidewalk Sale, and Marketplace merchant programs. The role offers hands‑on experience in managing events, collaborating with businesses and event partners, and setting up and breaking down event equipment. The Coordinator will also collaborate with the Marketing team to support summer programming efforts, assist with day‑of event signage, draft copy for print and digital materials, support the creation of graphic designs, gather content to promote and feature Burlington businesses, post on Instagram and Facebook stories, and manage online event calendars.

Essential Job Functions
Load in, staff, and load out events as assigned.
Support the execution of summer programming on the Church Street Marketplace in downtown Burlington, June through early October. This includes load‑in and load‑out of vendors, setup and breakdown of sandwich boards, placing meter bags, helping to provide access to utilities, engaging with customers, and troubleshooting any day‑of issues.
Assist with scheduling and layouts and track program attendance. Support communication with vendors.
Assist with day‑of signage marketing assets and copy for social media and web content.
Support the distribution of print marketing material and signage to the business community.
Post Instagram and Facebook stories.
Manage event listings on a variety of online community calendars.
Work outdoors, handle physical tasks, and conduct work with professionalism and compassion for everyone involved.
Contribute to effective relationships with third‑party vendors, organizations, cultural and community organizations, and Marketplace personnel.
Other assigned duties related to the Business and Workforce Development team’s mission, and supporting partners or stakeholders.
Work will generally take place outdoors; the position will require a significant amount of time on the Church Street Marketplace in all weather conditions. Indoor office time will also be part of the schedule.
Position will be approximately 15 hours per week with the occasional weekend hours. Schedule: Wednesdays 4:30‑8:30 pm, Thursdays 4:30‑9 pm, and an additional 6.5 hours of your choice on weekday(s) (Mon‑Fri) between 9 am‑5 pm.
Qualifications / Basic Job Requirements

Entry level position for a person 18 years or older. High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Demonstrated skill in creative problem solving, can‑do attitude, and staying calm under pressure.
Strong attention to detail.
Experience working in a diverse and inclusive organization is a plus.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Experience with Canva is a plus.
Ability to work outside in all types of weather, kneel or stand for periods of time, and be able to lift 50 pounds, which are all needed for on‑site events.
