Associate Underwriter

As an Excess and Surplus (E&S) carrier, we face unique and interesting problems every day. We are seeking an Associate Underwriter to join our amazing team.
This position is based in our beautiful Chicago office. Must be able to work onsite five days a week.
Primary Function:
The role of an Associate Underwriter is to assist with day to day functions of the Underwriting operation. As the Associate Underwriter gains experience, they will become responsible for underwriting renewal and new policies in compliance with established underwriting guidelines and within designated authority levels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Underwrite Product Recall & Contamination risks with focus on profitability
Establish relationships with brokers
Works with direct guidance from Vice President, Underwriting and other senior staff to review line of business submissions to ensure accuracy with quoting
Gather required information, negotiate terms & pricing and provide input on underwriting decisions
Operates within defined level of authority, following defined internal approval process and all applicable underwriting guidelines as noted within underwriting manuals and policies
Coordinate with Underwriting Assistant on issuance of binders, policies, endorsements and other documents as needed, as well as follow ups with brokers for required outstanding subjectivities
Collaborates with senior staff members to participate in marketing efforts
Performs other duties or tasks as assigned by leadership
Continuing education and pursuing designations
Experience, Education, Special Skills Required:
Bachelor's degree and 0-3 years of experience
Strong oral and written communication skills with solid negotiation capability
Excellent organizational, analytical, and data-driven decision-making skills
Detail-oriented team player able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to prioritize tasks based on urgency
Knowledge of insurance terminology and processes
In-office (Chicago) 5 days per week
Willing to travel 510% for marketing effort
Disclosures:
Pay Estimate: $55,000 - $75,000
Other compensation: annual incentive program
