Position Overview
The Communications Specialist, supervised by the Communications Captain, is responsible for delivering quality customer service at the TVEMS Communications Center. This role is not a 9‑1‑1 emergency dispatch position; it focuses on coordinating non‑emergent ambulance transfers while managing multiple systems, incoming requests, and real‑time updates.
These responsibilities may expand beyond the listed duties as assigned to meet TVEMS needs.
Employment Standards
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Prior call intake experience, quality customer service, and general computer experience.
Knowledge
Radio communication, call intake, and Microsoft Office programs.
Skills
Ability to function successfully in a team environment.
Clear verbal and written communication.
Set up and maintain records and files as required for effective position functions.
Comfortable handling several tasks simultaneously without losing accuracy; prioritize effectively and stay organized when busy.
Physical Requirements
Full range of body movement: bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, walking, running, lifting, climbing, and prolonged sitting.
Technical Competencies
General working knowledge of computers, telephones, and radios; working understanding of current TVEMS software functions.

Essential Functions
Work rotating 12‑hour shifts, four days on and four days off.
Obtain necessary information to dispatch appropriate units.
Prioritize calls and schedule based on request nature.
Monitor personnel for accurate response and safety.
Maintain accurate logs for documentation.
Set example for performance and conduct.
Measure, monitor, evaluate, and communicate quality findings and implement solutions.
Collaborate with company officers to develop, recommend, and implement procedures.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Working Environment
Workspace includes computer, printer, copier, telephone, and office supplies for generating reports and retrieving data.
Hazardous Exposure Category
Category III – no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, with unlikely exposure scenarios.
Lifting Requirements
Level 2 – Light work: up to 120 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, or negligible force constantly.
Compensation
Hourly, non‑exempt position. Annualized pay range $49,928–$59,160 for full‑time employment.
Starting hourly rate based on experience, education, certifications, and qualifications.
Overtime paid per applicable laws.
