ARVR Development Designer
Paramount, Los Angeles, CA, United States
#WeAreParamount on a mission to unleash the power of content... you in?
We've got the brands, we've got the stars, we've got the power to achieve our mission to entertain the planet - now all we're missing is... YOU! Becoming a part of Paramount means joining a team of passionate people who not only recognize the power of content but also enjoy a touch of fun and uniqueness. Together, we co‑create moments that matter - both for our audiences and our employees - and aim to leave a positive mark on culture.
The AR/VR Development Designer is a hands‑on creative promoting how storytelling shows up in real time. This role is about designing immersive environments that add value across CBS News & Stations and Sales. You're not just building scenes. You're shaping how stories are experienced.
This role lives at the intersection of design, motion, and real‑time tech - taking ideas and turning them into something visually sharp, intentional, and built for air. You'll partner with creative and technical teams to build scalable AR/VR tools and infrastructure that enable consistent, reliable storytelling across stations.
Role Overview
The AR/VR Development Designer conceptually designs and manually builds AR/VR environments using Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D, and Adobe tools that scale across our group of stations. You'll work closely with creative leadership, producers, and the AR/VR team to bring ideas to life in a way that feels modern, clear, and grounded in storytelling.
We're looking for someone who understands restraint, composition, and how to use the technology with purpose. We are open to considering the office location for this position as any one of our CBS O&O stations.
Key Responsibilities
Design and execute AR/VR environments in Unreal Engine and Cinema 4D
Take a concept and produce it - lighting, materials, motion, camera
Create scenes that feel intentional, not overdesigned, or cluttered
Optimize everything for real‑time performance and broadcast reliability
Know when to push-and when to simplify
Make It About the Story
Work directly with producers to translate editorial ideas into visual space
Design with clarity first - what's the story, what matters, what doesn't
Avoid "3D clip art" - everything on screen should have a reason to exist
Help evolve how we use AR/VR so it enhances coverage
Collaborate Without Overcomplicating
Work closely with the AR/VR Project Manager and creative leads to move fast and stay aligned
Be clear about what's possible, what's not, and what's worth doing
Take feedback, iterate quickly, and keep things moving
Support both News and Sales without losing design integrity
Push the Look Forward
Bring a contemporary design sensibility - clean, intentional, current
Explore new techniques, workflows, and visual approaches
Help define what AR/VR should look like across CBS Stations - not just execute it
Contribute to reusable assets and systems that scale across markets
Qualifications & Skills
Strong design background - motion, 3D, broadcast, experiential, or similar
Solid Unreal Engine experience (real‑time scene building is core to this role)
Proficiency in Cinema 4D and Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Good instincts for lighting, composition, typography, and motion
Understanding of real‑time constraints - performance matters
Ability to work fast, stay organized, and handle multiple projects at once
Comfortable working with both creatives and non‑creatives
What Sets You Apart
You know when less is more (and when it's not!)
You're curious about the tech, but not distracted by it
You care about the story as much as the visuals
You want to make the experience in AR/VR better - not just maintain it
Why CBS News & Stations
At CBS News & Stations, AR/VR is no longer experimental - it is operational, scalable, and central to how we tell stories. This role sits at the intersection of design, technology, and journalism, influencing daily newscasts and major national moments across the country. You'll help shape the visual language of modern broadcast news while working alongside industry-leading creative and technical teams.
