The Marketing Communications Specialist works directly with attorneys and internal teams to support communications needs and maintain progress across multiple concurrent activities.

Compensation
At Spencer Fane, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including but not limited to location, skillset, experience, training, licenses, certifications and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. We expect the hourly rate for this position to be between $35.00 and $40.00.

Primary Responsibilities

Draft and ghostwrite short form thought leadership pieces, client alerts, and timely commentary on behalf of the firm and individual attorneys, translating legal insights into clear, engaging content aligned with the firm’s voice and strategic messaging.

Contribute to the firm’s position as an industry thought leader by promptly editing, formatting, and distributing client alerts.

Partner with market teams, practice groups, and firm leadership to identify, develop, and promote thought leadership opportunities that elevate attorney visibility and support the firm’s strategic business development goals.

Collaborate with the PR team to create and execute earned media relations campaigns including media pitching for interview and thought leadership (contributed content) opportunities for attorneys and firm leadership.

Compile and circulate communications results and press coverage of the firm and individual attorneys; lead the firm’s public relations tracking efforts; and assess outreach efforts to identify innovative ways to reach target audiences.

Coordinate communications workflows across multiple projects, tracking progress, following up with stakeholders, and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.

Review and finalize communications materials for quality, consistency, and alignment with firm standards prior to release.

Partner with business development, events, and digital marketing teams to support coordinated communications efforts.

Qualifications / Skills

Education:

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field

Experience:

Minimum of three years supporting communications or PR activities, including coordinating multiple assignments and working with stakeholders. Previous law firm or professional service experience preferred

Writing and Editing:

Proficiency in editing communications by integrating input from multiple contributors; organizes content for clarity and flow and ensures consistency across materials.

Communications Coordination:

Proficiency in coordinating communications processes; tracks inputs, confirms approvals, and ensures materials are delivered across multiple assignments.

Technical Skills and Systems Proficiency:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and marketing-related tools (e.g., content management systems, email platforms); applies document formatting standards, manages tracked changes and version control, and maintains structured tracking tools (e.g., project trackers, media logs) across multiple assignments. Experience using Adobe InDesign to format and update marketing materials (e.g., brochures, publications, templates) by applying layout standards, adjusting content within templates, and preparing materials for distribution preferred.

Workflow Coordination:

Maintains trackers across multiple assignments; monitors progress, follows up with stakeholders, and ensures work progresses according to deadlines.

Stakeholder Coordination:

Communicates directly with attorneys and stakeholders to gather inputs, clarify requirements, and ensure completion of deliverables.

Professionalism and Reliability:

Maintains consistency across deliverables, manages deadlines across multiple assignments, and ensures accuracy in all materials.

Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements: Position is generally sedentary in nature; involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time

Ability to occasionally or routinely lift up 10-20 lbs. required

Communication: Ability to effectively communicate

Manual Dexterity: Ability to perform repetitive motions required

Visual: Ability to see and read PC screens, detect color coding, read fine print, and/or normal type size print
