Social Media & Digital Marketing Specialist The Salvation Army Southern California
Location: Hawaii • Job Type: Full-time • Salary: $45,000 • Department: Development
Overview The Social Media & Digital Marketing Specialist manages The Salvation Army’s interactions with the public through implementing content strategies on social media platforms. The role represents the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division by increasing its social media presence. The position runs both organic and paid advertising campaigns and drives engagement by creating original and various forms of visual and impactful content. The role engages influencers and manages online community interactions by responding to comments across platforms.
Responsibilities Day-to-day management of social media communities, moderating chatter and conversations; identify and address negative sentiment and comments when possible
Collaborate with individuals and teams across the organization to coordinate appropriate responses to conversations, especially during crises
Exponentially increase the size and engagement of the social media community
Generate proactive user engagement of TSA influencers and journalists; build bridges through users, especially on blogs; grow and nurture the community to amplify fundraising efforts
Establish and manage new social profiles, and assist corps/programs in managing theirs
Content Development Maintain and monitor TSA’s social media presence across platforms
Manage social media communications calendar and syndication schedules, with content from contributors throughout the division and territory
Curate and create content, including copywriting, content sourcing, and aggregation; collaborate with other departments as needed
Develop content production schedule using tools such as Hootsuite; establish processes and workflows to maximize output
Audit existing social media presences
Integrate social media efforts with web and digital media, media relations, marketing, fundraising, and more
Stay up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies
Brand Building Brand existing and new profiles across main social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
Find and manage auto-generated profiles and directory entries, claim where possible, and provide accurate branding information, especially on location-based networks (e.g., Yelp, Foursquare, Google)
Collaborate with territorial and divisional headquarters to strengthen the brand in social and digital media
Attend relevant community events and corps events; visit corps sites to take photos and conduct interviews
Reporting and Analytics Produce and manage reporting and analytics of all social media activity, including weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
Identify trends and share learnings to guide content, marketing, and fundraising strategy
Measure the success of social media campaigns and provide regular updates to directors on traffic and conversions
This position may support the Donor Data Management Director during the holiday season by assisting with data and donation processing.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a relevant field
Proven work experience in social media
Ability to develop and implement a marketing plan
Ability to tailor voice for each social media platform
Proven ability to build social media communities
Understanding of graphic design principles and photography
Hands-on experience in content management
Excellent copywriting and communication skills
Solid knowledge of SEO, keyword research, and Google Analytics
Analytical and multitasking abilities
Knowledge of database maintenance preferred
High integrity and confidentiality
Team player, proactive, and flexible in assisting others to ensure accurate work products
Reliable, dependable, and adaptable
Ability to work with diverse populations and personalities
Commitment to Salvation Army Policies and Procedures
Ability to think independently and resolve problems
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
