
Comptroller / Director of Financial Accounting (Philadelphia)

Beech Valley is seeking an experienced Comptroller / Director of Financial Accounting to lead core financial reporting and compliance functions for a health system environment. This role is based onsite in Philadelphia, PA. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position will oversee the monthly close, financial statement preparation, audit coordination, and tax reporting in accordance with GASB standards. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both technical accounting expertise and strong team management capabilities.
What You’ll Do
Lead preparation and analysis of financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow
Manage the monthly close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to leadership and the Board
Oversee general ledger activity, ensuring accuracy of journal entries and account reconciliations
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including Senior Accountant(s) and team members
Serve as primary liaison for external auditors and lead the annual audit process
Oversee preparation and filing of IRS Form 990 and related tax reporting
Ensure compliance with GASB standards and applicable regulatory requirements
Identify process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
8+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
Strong experience with GASB accounting standards
Proven track record managing audits and preparing financial statements
Experience with nonprofit and/or healthcare accounting environments preferred
Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams
Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Nice to Have
CPA designation
Experience with large health systems or complex organizational structures
Prior experience reporting to executive leadership or Board of Directors
