Overview
LMI is seeking a Health Policy Operations & Communications Intern to support program operations and stakeholder engagement efforts. The intern will join a team delivering policy, operational, and analytical support to HHS, specifically the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The intern will support a team delivering operational, analytical, and communications support to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The primary focus will be assisting with application review processes, operational documentation, stakeholder coordination, and program communications to ensure alignment with federal requirements. This role will not involve direct policy authorship or influence over policy decisions.

Responsibilities
Success in this role comes from strong communication skills, organization, adaptability, and an interest in healthcare operations and policy.

Day-to-day responsibilities may include:

Assist in developing and maintaining operational plans, guidance documents, and standard operating procedures

Support application review tracking and coordination efforts across stakeholders

Help analyze application and program data to identify trends and areas for improvement

Draft and edit internal and external communications, reports, and knowledge base content

Support stakeholder coordination, including meeting preparation, notes, and follow-ups

Assist with validation and verification of data across multiple systems

Collaborate with technical teams to support system testing and process improvements

Track decisions and maintain documentation repositories

Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public policy, public health, communications, business administration, or a related field

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities

Ability to work effectively both independently and in team environments

Desired Skills & Background

Interest in healthcare policy, CMS programs, or federal consulting

Experience supporting projects, operations, or communications efforts (academic or internship)

Familiarity with tools such as Smartsheet, SharePoint, or collaboration platforms

Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise messaging

Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take ownership of tasks

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for a U.S. Government security clearance. Only US Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
