Job Title: Wireless Network Field Engineer (L2)
Role Summary
The Wireless Network Field Engineer (L2) is responsible for on-site deployment, replacement, and support of wireless network infrastructure, with a primary focus on wireless controller installation and migration activities. This role involves hands-on execution of hardware replacement, cabling, connectivity validation, and coordination with remote engineering teams to ensure seamless implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Perform on-site replacement of wireless LAN controllers (WLCs) at customer locations.
Decommission existing wireless controllers and install new hardware.
Rack, stack, cable, and power up wireless controllers and associated equipment.
Verify physical connections, interface status, and power availability.
Conduct initial configuration support under the guidance of remote network teams.
Validate controller connectivity to the network, including uplinks, management access, and redundancy where applicable.
Assist in migration of access points from old controllers to new controllers.
Perform post-installation testing to confirm operational readiness.
Troubleshoot basic hardware, cabling, and connectivity issues.
Document installation activities, serial numbers, cabling changes, and test results.
Coordinate with remote engineers, project managers, and customer stakeholders during implementation.
Ensure compliance with site access, safety, and change management procedures.
Required Skills and Experience
3+ years of hands-on experience in network infrastructure support.
Experience with wireless LAN controllers (such as Cisco, Aruba, or similar platforms).
Strong understanding of wireless networking concepts, including WLAN, SSID, AP adoption, and controller-based architectures.
Proficiency in rack and stack, structured cabling, and hardware replacement.
Familiarity with switch connectivity, VLANs, trunk ports, and basic routing concepts.
Ability to perform console access, basic configuration verification, and connectivity testing.
Experience working in data center and enterprise site environments.
Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Cisco Wireless, Aruba Certified Associate, or equivalent.
Experience with wireless controller migrations and high-availability deployments.
Knowledge of enterprise wireless security standards and best practices.
Typical Activities at Site
Replace two wireless controllers per site.
Perform installation and cutover activities.
Verify connectivity and operational status.
Support remote configuration and testing teams.
Update implementation documentation and closure reports.
