Job Description:
We are seeking an
Energy Efficiency Engineer
to support energy efficiency and demand‑side management (DSM) programs. In this role, you will perform hands‑on engineering analysis, review customer energy projects, and help determine rebates and incentives. This is a highly collaborative, technical role ideal for engineers who enjoy problem‑solving, working with real‑world data, and contributing to sustainability initiatives.
This contractor position performs the same work as full‑time engineers and offers meaningful exposure to large‑scale energy efficiency programs.
What You’ll Be Doing
Perform
energy efficiency calculations
to estimate electricity and natural gas savings
Review
customer project applications
for technical accuracy and completeness
Conduct
baseline vs. proposed energy analyses
Support
rebate and incentive determinations , including preparation of customer‑facing documentation
Develop and maintain
prescriptive rebate calculators
using Excel (VBA preferred; Python a plus)
Serve as a
technical resource
for internal teams and external stakeholders
Support projects involving:
Heating systems
Cooling systems
Refrigeration
Compressed air
Respond to technical questions from customers, vendors, and manufacturers
Occasionally participate in customer calls or site visits (limited and infrequent)
Team Environment
Part of a collaborative
Energy Efficiency / Energy Solutions Engineering team
Work is peer‑reviewed and supported by senior engineers
Close collaboration with product managers and account managers
Low‑micromanagement, high‑trust culture
Comfortable working with ambiguity and non‑routine technical challenges
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
2–5 years of relevant professional experience
Experience with
energy efficiency or energy savings calculations
Advanced
Excel skills
Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
Clear communication skills and a customer‑focused mindset
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with:
Energy efficiency programs
Utility or DSM environments
Energy consulting or sustainability projects
VBA or Python experience
Certifications such as
EIT
or
Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
