
Transmission Line Structural Design Engineer I - Senior

Overview Sunflower, a generation and transmission utility serving central and western Kansas, is currently looking to expand our transmission engineering department with a Transmission Line Structural Design Engineer I, II, or Senior in our Great Bend, Hays, or Wichita, KS office. We’re looking for a driven and detail-oriented individual to support the design, planning, and installation of cutting-edge electrical transmission line and substation structures. In this role, you’ll be part of a passionate engineering team responsible for bringing complex, high-voltage projects to life—from concept through commissioning.
Responsibilities
Collaborate on the planning and execution of high-voltage transmission line projects that keep the grid strong and reliable.
Contribute to line routing, structure selection, conductor evaluation, and structure spotting—the core building blocks of our grid.
Gain hands-on experience with installation and commissioning processes, learning from experienced engineers and field professionals.
Participate in an employee benefits program, including paid Community Service Leave and a company-funded pension.
Qualifications
Engineer I: Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is preferred.
Engineer II: Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and three years of engineering industry experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
Senior Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and seven years of practical utility experience. PE license is preferred.
