Platform Engineer Job at Storm3 in San Francisco

About the Role

We’re looking for a Principal-level Platform Engineer to architect the next generation of our AI-powered learning ecosystem, including our Partner API platform, Connector services, and LearnOS plugin framework.

You'll lead core technical strategy for how external developers, enterprise partners, and AI agents (MCP + agentic frameworks) interact with the platform.

This is a high-impact, foundational role at the intersection of APIs, integrations, agent interoperability, and large-scale distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect and evolve a secure, scalable external API gateway


• Build SDKs, tooling, and multi-tenant developer surfaces


• Define long-term platform extensibility strategy


• Design sandboxed plugin runtimes for real-time learning triggers


• Architect participation in MCP and emerging agent ecosystems


• Build APIs enabling agents to create study sets, track progress, trigger learning workflows, and operate autonomously

Security, Governance & Compliance

• Implement rate limiting, permissions, auditability, and secure-by-default developer experiences


• Partner with Legal & Trust/Safety on compliance and responsible platform access

Eventing, Data Exchange & Infra

• Design pub/sub streams for syncing learning activity across internal and external systems


• Enable consistent, real-time interactions across tools and integrations

Requirements

• 5+ years building large-scale API, developer platform, or integration ecosystems


• Deep experience with API design, SDKs, plugin systems, multi-tenant architecture


• Expertise with agent frameworks (MCP), protocol design, LLM/AI interoperability


• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes/containers, OAuth2, gRPC/REST, event‑driven infra


• Strong security & privacy fundamentals


• Proven ability to own architecture end‑to‑end and drive platform evolution at scale
