Network Engineer
CGS is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join a team focused on evaluating, enhancing, and maintaining a large‑scale network project that includes both wired and wireless network infrastructure and related hardware and software. The project will evaluate existing disparate networks and design and implement a comprehensive network infrastructure that meets wireless, wired, and software requirements. The role includes consultation on necessary hardware and software, systems testing, vulnerability assessments, and quality assurance for the new setup. The Network Engineer will interface with state and local governmental personnel, internal stakeholders, subject‑matter experts, and vendors providing development services.

Responsibilities

Operate and manage NPS network infrastructure.

Improve infrastructure monitoring and reporting through deployment of network management software.

Develop, maintain, and deliver infrastructure documentation for the NPS environment.

Review current best practices and provide recommendations for architecture, design, management, and operation of the network infrastructure.

Administer the Cloudpath (or equivalent) onboarding process, monitor and troubleshoot wireless network health, maintain wireless network infrastructure, and implement network security patches and software/firmware updates (0800–1700 PST, Monday–Friday).

Assess the NPS network infrastructure and recommend improvements and optimizations.

Define and conduct testing procedures for new infrastructure projects.

Implement technology solutions within the NPS network environment.

Provide design guidance on network solutions within NPS infrastructure projects.

Offer informal training and knowledge transfer to NPS resources on best practices and theory of operation for network products.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Information Systems, or related discipline.

Strong documentation skills; updating JIRA tickets, Wiki pages, and network diagrams.

Excellent communication with end users, cross‑organizational staff, and technical assistance centers.

CWNA Certification or equivalent.

BCNE Certification or equivalent.

Experience with RF site survey tools (e.g., Ekahau, RF scanners, Wireshark).

Strong knowledge of layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing protocols (VLANs, 802.1w, OSPF, VRRP).

Strong knowledge of network security (802.1x, MAC authentication, ACLs, RADIUS, certificate authorities).

Proficiency in troubleshooting RF and LAN issues.

Working knowledge of Linux, MS Server 2013, VMware, etc.

Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline (preferred).

At least 3 years of experience with disaster recovery plan creation/implementation and testing.

Experience with penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, and testing.

Experience with cyber threat information collection and analysis.

Knowledge of Agile/SCUM project management methodologies.
