Overview Network Engineer role at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Responsible for the engineering, build, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of network and related monitoring systems to ensure stability, reliability, and acceptable performance. This includes the design and support of routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF to ensure efficient and resilient network communication across the Medical Center's infrastructure. Provides functional and empirical analysis related to the planning, design, installation, and implementation of the network infrastructure, including advanced technologies such as MPLS for traffic engineering and EVPN and VXLAN for scalable data center and campus network segmentation. Plans and develops the detailed engineering, design, and implementation of the Medical Center's network environment, incorporating modern overlay and underlay architectures to support high availability and performance. Plans and performs upgrades of network systems hardware and support systems in accordance with ITIL best practices.

Responsibilities

Lead and participate in network systems projects ranging from medium to large scope, risk, and impact.

Evaluate and research new and existing products, procedures, and workflow needs related to network systems for the Medical Center.

Research current and developing technologies—including dynamic routing protocols, MPLS-based services, and data center virtualization solutions—to provide technical guidance on capabilities, limitations, and requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science or related field and 4 years of network experience, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and practical application of routing protocols; familiarity with firewall technologies; knowledge and use of 802.11; knowledge and practical application of the OSI model networking standards.

Familiarity with ITIL best practice guidelines.

Proficiency in VMware vCenter, NSX and vSphere platforms.

Knowledge of Network Virtualization and Proficiency with Network Function Virtualization (load balancers, switches, routers, firewalls).
