Summary
Northline Seafoods is a seafood processing company seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Production Manager to help lead our processing crews during the salmon season. This role focuses on maximizing processing efficiency and freezing capacity to ensure smooth, high-volume operations. The position runs approximately mid-June through mid-August aboard our stationary floating processing facility anchored near Dillingham, AK . Preseason work in Bellingham, WA is preferred if available for a few weeks prior to the season.
Essential Duties
Assist in the planning and scheduling of all production activities on the barge in Alaska
Serve as the Production Manager in their off time
Work closely with the Deck team to ensure a continuous flow of product to the plant as required to maximize freezing capacity
Under the guidance of the Production manager this position will train, supervise, and coach all production employees including four leads
Manage performance issues in coordination with the Production Manager and HR team
Work as a hands‑on leader with regular presence on the production floor
Promote product quality among the processing staff with a hands‑on constant training approach
Assist the Production Manager in the layout and arrangement of work processes in the plant
Along with the QA Manager and Production Manager develop standard operating procedures for all production positions
Provide safety training to processing staff as required with a zero‑accident tolerance approach
Maintain daily production records and report abnormalities to the team so they can be addressed
Manage and keep accurate records of packaging and product inventory
Participate in regulatory agency inspections and work to address deficiencies promptly
Maintain the highest regard for safety policies and safety training of processing staff
All other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 1 year experience as a manager/supervisor within the fish processing industry with an emphasis on freezing operations and freezer maximization
Extensive knowledge of all aspects of production including proper handling, species sorting, butchering, flash freezing, packaging and storing of seafood products
Knowledge of salmon processing is a must for this role
Forklift experience is a must for this role
Knowledge of Bristol Bay operations is a huge plus for this role
Advanced knowledge on appropriate use of emergency equipment located on the barge
The ability to work independently and provide clear direction to a team is a critical function as this position will lead all production operations in the absence of the Production Manager
Ability to solve problems and make clear rational decisions in a fast‑paced work environment
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
This position works aboard our stationary floating processing facility. It is physically demanding and requires candidates who can handle long hours, including up to 16‑hour days, seven days per week. Employees must be able to work in cold, wet, and confined environments for extended periods, performing repetitive full‑body movements such as bending, twisting, squatting, and lifting. The role also involves climbing multiple levels of stairs and safely navigating tight spaces without assistance. Additionally, candidates must be capable of regularly lifting up to 25 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting as needed.
