Position Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for configuring, managing, and maintaining network infrastructure and services to ensure reliable and secure connectivity across the organization. The role requires extensive experience with a range of networking hardware and software solutions, project management skills, vendor collaboration, and an understanding of industry trends and best practices. The Network Engineer plays a critical role in both the day‑to‑day operations and long‑term strategy of network infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure connectivity that supports the district’s mission of being a first‑choice district for over 30,000 students and staff.
Essential Duties
Great Teaching & Learning (Instructional Infrastructure)
Supports reliable technology access for instruction, classrooms, and learning environments.
Configure, deploy, and maintain Cisco routers, switches, access points, wireless controllers, and VoIP systems
Manage and optimize Cisco DNA Center to ensure seamless network operations and automation
Implement and maintain Aruba ClearPass for secure network access control and authentication
Oversee SolarWinds network monitoring to ensure network performance and proactively address potential issues
Utilize Splunk for log analysis, network security monitoring, and troubleshooting
Respond to network outages and issues, conducting root‑cause analysis and implementing solutions
Implement security measures and maintain best practices to safeguard the network, including regular updates, patches, and audits
Investigate and act upon alerts to mitigate threats and risks to ensure network security and regulatory compliance
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, performance, and scalability of the network infrastructure
Assist with disaster recovery planning and execution

Supports development, training, and capacity‑building of staff.
When applicable, provide training and technical support to end‑users and IT staff on network tools, configurations, and troubleshooting
Stay up‑to‑date with the latest networking technologies and industry trends

Supports collaboration, leadership, and organizational alignment.
Lead and manage network infrastructure projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget
Coordinate with cross‑functional teams to align network projects with business objectives and technology needs
Communicate with external vendors and support teams to ensure timely and efficient resolution of technical issues and tickets
Great Systems (Support & Accountability)
Supports operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Review and score RFP responses, evaluating proposals for technical feasibility, compliance, and cost‑effectiveness
Maintain detailed network diagrams, configurations, and troubleshooting guides
Prepare weekly status reports of projects, escalated issues, network outages/performance and incident resolutions for management
Perform other duties as assigned in support of district goals and accountability structures
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills And/or Abilities)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in network engineering or IT infrastructure roles, with preference for experience in large‑scale or educational environments.
Hands‑on experience with Cisco routers, switches, access points, VoIP systems, and wireless controllers.
Experience with Cisco DNA Center, Aruba ClearPass, SolarWinds, and Splunk.
Familiarity with RFP processes and vendor management.
Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
Project management experience in network‑related projects.
Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are preferred.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills allowing you to troubleshoot and diagnose issues quickly and efficiently.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Detail‑oriented with a commitment to high‑quality results.
Must be able to work with other teams and team members in a cooperative and positive manner.
Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills And/or Abilities)
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or better
Aruba Certified ClearPass Associate (ACCA) or better
SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) or equivalent
Splunk Core Certified Power User or better
Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) or equivalent
CompTIA Network+
Physical/Mental Requirements
Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
Physical agility, able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, walk, reach and climb stairs.
Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
Work Environment
Office duties will be performed in a well‑lighted, climate controlled environment.
