Our customer, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), provides, operates, and assures command and control of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) services to its customers, the Department of Defense (DoD) and national security organizations. This position directly supports the DISA-provided capabilities and services.
Our contract has an opening for an Implementations/Activations Network Engineer at Scott AFB, IL. The Implementations Network Engineer will perform installation oversight, configuration, testing, monitoring, servicing of network equipment, and activation of networks for projects supporting Department of Defense networks.
This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance.
Responsible for performing the following duties:
Perform customer coordination, Initial Test and Acceptance (IT&A), execution of all reporting functions, and complete data input associated with new service activations to ensure they are implemented in accordance with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) standards
Work directly with customers, solution architects, and vendor SMEs to implement changes and identify, analyze, and resolve issues
Manage Service Orders in accordance with Change Management procedures
Ensure Telecommunication Service Orders (TSOs) are in place and accurate for scheduled network additions and changes
Initiate network device configurations using configlets
Analyze DISN and databases to validate and implement customer requirements
Design and implement solutions to highly technical problems through testing, documentation, and modification of configurations on network devices
Coordinate and program customer circuit activation with commercial vendors to establish the engineered solution for end-to-end connectivity
Perform network monitoring to assess whether deployed changes have impacted customer traffic using expected traffic behavior, lessons learned, and customer reporting
Utilize systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional requirements in support of customer resources
Engage with DISA project managers and/or customers to resolve issues with incomplete or unclear requirements
Reach out to stakeholders and facilitate approvals as necessary to ensure continual forward progress of the service request
Basic Qualifications:
Proficient knowledge of various network hardware equipment specifications, configuration and testing processes, and industry standards
Knowledge of configuring, activating, testing, and analyzing network systems
Network engineering, problem management, and performance management experience
Understanding of basic telecommunications and information technology concepts
Knowledge of data and voice network design across various transmission systems, including router-to-router connections using military and commercial protocols such as BGP and ISIS, switch-to-switch trunking including VLANs, and circuit configurations through multiplexers
Experience with network services (BGP, OSPF, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, WAN, VPN, VLAN, VRF, etc.) and network appliances (routers, load balancers, DNS servers, firewalls)
Ability to work in a team environment while being self-driven to complete assignments and continuously develop process proficiency. Strong written and verbal communication, team building, and collaboration skills
Active Secret security clearance required
DoD 8570 IAT Level II baseline certification (Security+ CE or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience at DISA or familiarity with DISA systems and processes
Experience with SharePoint data entry
Experience performing customer outreach
Familiarity with DISA Request Fulfillment processes and associated documentation (TSRs, TSOs, completion reports)
Basic understanding of the Department of Defense, its policies, and hierarchy
Basic understanding of DISA organizational structure and how elements (e.g., DITCO) support mission partner TSR requirements
Network certifications such as Cisco (CCNA, CCNP), Microsoft (MCSE), or security certifications (Security+ CE, CISSP); ITIL certification is a plus
Required Education and Experience:
Requires a BS degree and 2–4 years of prior relevant experience, or a Master's degree with less than 2 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
