
Sr Lead, Network Engineer Job at Utilicom in Jersey City

Reporting to the Network Manager, the Network Engineer is seen as a technical expert in Network Engineering. This is a technical and hands‑on role, with a primary focus on design and implementation of Network Change; also you will be expected to support the network operations team with complex troubleshooting of issues as required. You will have experience working in high impact, mission critical environments where service matters and exceeding expectations is the norm.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, monitor, and maintain high-performance transmission systems across enterprise networks, including fiber optics, routers, switches, and associated infrastructure critical to data and voice transmission.
Hands‑on expertise in troubleshooting, configuration, and optimization of transmission paths to ensure seamless connectivity and minimal downtime.
Define and document Network Engineering Standards.
Create Low Level Design documents to meet requirements outlined in the High Level Design.
Create detailed Implementation Plans for all engineering related activity.
Conduct procurement activities relating to build and delivery of new services (Project).
Ensure smooth Transition/Handover to Operations in line with agreed Operational Acceptance Process.
Manage Technical Lifecycle Management for all Network & Communications services.
Support Architecture in creation and upkeep of a Delivery Roadmap for Network engineer.
Support Architecture in scoping activities required to produce the High Level Design.
Support Architecture in undertaking Proof of Concept activities.
Ensure skillsets are relevant and up to date to deliver change and provide a high level of support.
Provide escalation support to Operations with complex troubleshooting of Major Incidents as required.
Provide on‑call escalation support (rota basis) and work extended hours as and when required.
Core Skills & Experience
Minimum 12 years overall experience, with at least 8 years hands‑on experience of Transmission network solutions within a global enterprise scale organization.
First‑hand experience designing engineering and building resilient and scalable Transmission network solutions.
Knowledge of network principles, regional compliance standards, relevant local regulations, and applicable laws.
Understanding of network topology like ring structure, daisy‑chain structure and their traffic handling capabilities and characteristics.
Well‑versed in the functionality of telecommunication network transmission nodes.
Adept in functionality of transmission media test equipment (optical light meter, power meter, OTDR).
Familiar with bands in optical fibre and their usability as well as loss characteristics.
Knowledge of signal strength and quality KPIs design values and margins.
Understanding of risk and compliance concepts and how to translate these into effective network solutions.
Strong understanding of Layer 2, Layer 3 & Layer 4‑7 network and network technologies.
Experience with a variety of testing tools, networking technologies and techniques to accurately troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems associated with the service, application and network hardware and software.
Technical Skills & Experience
Transmission Network – DWDM, SDH, Leased Line, PSTN Circuits.
Network Routing & Switching.
Network Security.
Public Cloud Peering – Azure, AWS, Google (desirable).
Technical Certification
Certifications: Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or equivalent.
Experience in handling transmission jobs in ACH or similar financial systems.
ITILv3 foundation or higher.
Personal Attributes
Highly organized and able to operate well under pressure, working to tight deadlines.
