Job Overview
The Senior Director, Finance - Marketing partners with the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Marketing leadership to provide financial oversight and analytical insights that guide decision-making and strengthen the organization’s financial health. The role acts as a senior commercial leader across financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis for Marketing, aligns plans to corporate objectives, and drives improvements in financial performance. The role also supports Macy’s Monetization Network in coordination with Co‑op Advertising support provided by company vendors.

What You Will Do
Financial Strategy & Leadership

Partner with Macy’s Chief Marketing Officer, senior leaders, and operating department heads to set financial strategies and drive performance improvements across Marketing.

Build strong relationships with Marketing leaders to influence decisions and enable positive change.

Provide financial leadership including pressure testing strategies in partnership with leadership to find the optimal path forward.

Develop financial models and decision frameworks that align with company goals and Marketing priorities, including events and key initiatives.

Think and act like a Marketing P&L owner and understand and can communicate the contribution, profitability, and trade‑offs by initiative.

Partner with strategy and marketing leadership to translate marketing investment into a clear financial narrative for executive leadership.

Budgeting & Forecasting

Lead the annual Marketing budgeting process and ensure comprehensive, accurate financial projections.

Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting; identify risks and opportunities; and recommend corrective actions as needed.

Monitor actual performance versus budget and forecast; deliver variance analysis and actionable insights to department heads.

Lead Marketing capital spend analysis to support new asset requests and prioritization of spend.

Operational Performance Analysis

Deliver deep financial analysis for key Marketing operating areas, including media, production, Macy’s Studios, visual improvements, and photo studio operations.

Analyze and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve decision‑making and operational results.

Partner with operations to evaluate and optimize cost structures, operating strategies, and capital investments.

Serve as a key partner with the marketing effectiveness team to help connect investments to delivering the sales plan and related analysis.

Process Improvement & Efficiency

Brings a strong zero‑based budgeting mindset clearly challenging legacy spend, forcing prioritization, and driving reallocation of dollars toward growth, while also looking for cost efficiencies.

Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting across Marketing.

Drive automation of financial processes and systems to streamline workflows and improve efficiency and accuracy.

Support operational initiatives that reduce costs, improve margins, and enhance overall profitability.

Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills You Will Need
Strategic Finance Business Partnering: Ability to partner with the CMO and senior Marketing leaders to shape financial strategy, influence decisions, and drive measurable performance improvements.

Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting: Proven capability to lead annual budget cycles and ongoing forecasts, identify risks and opportunities, and deliver variance analysis with clear corrective actions.

Financial Modeling & Decision Support: Strong skill in building financial models, scenario analyses, and decision frameworks that align Marketing initiatives (including events) to enterprise goals and ROI outcomes.

Business Acumen: Understands how marketing strategies, channels, and investments drive customer engagement, revenue growth, and brand performance.

Executive Communication & Influence: Ability to communicate with clarity and confidence across all levels, present complex financial insights in a decision‑ready way, and influence outcomes in a complex matrix environment.

Trusted Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to build credibility and trust with senior stakeholders through objective counsel, strong relationship management, and consistent follow‑through.

Ethics, Integrity & Sound Judgment: Unyielding ethics and personal integrity, with strong judgment and the ability to set the right tone for teams and stakeholders.

Problem Solving & Agility: Ability to connect the dots quickly, diagnose issues early, and recommend practical solutions as business conditions change.

People & Talent Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams; motivate and retain high‑performing talent; and build bench strength for critical finance capabilities.

Who You Are

Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. MBA preferred.

10‑plus years of related finance and/or accounting experience required. 5‑plus years of experience in finance with emphasis on budgeting, forecasting, planning, analysis, and modeling preferred. Multi‑location retail experience and experience with retail entertainment supporting broadcast, production, and retail campaign events preferred.

Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.

Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
