Business Development Senior Coordinator
Reporting to the Business & Practice Development, this role supports a dynamic national team responsible for executing a wide range of marketing, business development, practice management, and communications initiatives, with a focus on our Tax Area. This is a highly collaborative, attorney‑facing position that offers frequent interaction with lawyers and exposure to Alston & Bird’s prominent tax practice groups. The ideal candidate is a proactive self‑starter with strong project management skills who enjoys learning, taking ownership of projects, and delivering exceptional service while contributing to a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.

Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with and report within the MBD/Practice Management Team, including director and manager‑level team members.

Develop customized materials for prospect/client presentations; respond to requests and initiate projects. Draft, edit, proofread materials, recommend changes, and supervise marketing operations personnel to execute projects in a timely and professional manner.

Plan and coordinate internal and external practice group and office events, including travel to other firm offices or off‑site locations.

Supervise external survey, directory, award, and ranking submissions by drafting narrative descriptions and nominations, collecting matter descriptions, client permissions, and references from lawyers. Track and capture credentialing activities; prepare drafts for survey responses.

Contribute to RFP responses by drafting, collecting, and organizing content. Format, edit, and submit by a deadline. Include post‑pitch follow‑up.

Manage mailing lists related to practice group events and office marketing efforts.

Support integration of new associates and lateral lawyers, including drafting biographies and assisting with orientation planning.

Collaborate with the firm’s PR team to advance profile‑raising efforts within the market.

Conduct research and competitive analysis inclusive of lateral activity, thought leadership, events, news/experience, and work with the Manager to prepare presentations regarding the firm’s competitive positioning in the market.

Communicate with the MBD and Practice Managers; provide weekly project status updates, and key information updates as necessary/ requested.

Ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of practice information on all the firm’s external channels—social media, firm website.

Monitor, track, and collaborate with attorneys on the practices’ knowledge/experience management efforts, using the firm’s Foundation database.

Monitor the use and updating of client contacts/client team activity information within the InterAction software system.

Skills and Experience

High level of energy and ability to perform effectively in a fast‑paced, service‑oriented environment.

Multi‑task and prioritize; demonstrate superb project management skills.

High level of attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Create strong relationships with partners, counsel, and associates in the assigned groups to establish a role as trusted advisor.

Well‑developed and professional interpersonal skills, and ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm.

Display ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus.

Entrepreneurial by nature; willingness to own a project.

Developed knowledge of marketing principles, procedures, concepts, and practical applications; proven ability to carry and achieve marketing goals.

Experience with CRM a plus.

Experience with Foundation a plus.

Advanced‑level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Education & Experience

Required: bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, marketing, management, communications, or other business‑oriented degree.

Required: Previous experience in marketing/business development and/or practice management in a law firm (or professional services firm).

Preferred: Specific experience working with tax legal practices (employee benefits & executive compensation, federal & international tax, state and local tax, etc.).

Preferred: Experience managing and tracking budgets.
