The University of South Carolina recognizes the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence and is seeking a full‑time tenure‑track faculty member (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) whose research focuses on AI within mediated communication.
Job Summary
In this Presidential‑funded hire, the candidate will explore AI in media contexts such as extended reality, e‑gaming, web 3.0, computer vision, bots, large language models, image/video generation, blockchain, software development, and emerging content tools. The new hire will join a collegial faculty and contribute scholarly work in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SJMC) core areas.

Blockchain, ad verification, and smart contracts

Required Education and Experience
Ph.D. in a communication‑related field by the start date. ABDs will be considered; Ph.D. required at appointment.
Well‑established record of publishing digital communication strategy/analysis/content creation research that advances AI at the nexus of mass communication (at least 5 years for Associate Professor rank or 9 years for Full Professor rank).
At least one research stream with artificial intelligence as its core and a track record or potential to publish in the school’s core research areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in securing external research funding.
Demonstrated expertise in teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
