Overview
Media Center Assistant / Ratio Paraprofessional – Fremont Elementary School

Position Summary: The Media Center Assistant / Ratio Paraprofessional supports the daily operation of the school media center while providing supervision and instructional assistance to students. This position assists with library management, supports student learning through small group instruction, and contributes to a positive and organized learning environment. The position works collaboratively with teachers, staff, and administration to support the academic and social needs of students.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

Ability to effectively supervise students in a school setting

Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to understand and respond appropriately to student needs

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive relationships with teachers and support staff

Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn district software systems

Previous experience working in an elementary school setting preferred

Successful completion of all required criminal background checks and fingerprinting

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Media Center & Library Support

Assist in the daily operation and organization of the school media center

Utilize the Follett Library Management System for cataloging, check-in/check-out, and tracking library materials

Assist with coding, shelving, stocking, and organizing books and instructional materials

Support the ordering, processing, and management of library materials

Assist with planning and organizing school-wide book fairs

Maintain accountability for library books, media materials, and equipment

Support students and staff with locating and utilizing library resources

Student Supervision & Instructional Support

Provide direct supervision of students in the media center and other assigned areas

Assist teachers with small group instruction in reading and/or math

Provide instructional and academic support to students as directed by classroom teachers

Support students in general education, special education, and independent learning environments

Assist in maintaining a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for all students

Collaboration & School Climate

Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, and support staff

Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters

Contribute to a positive school climate and culture that supports student learning and well-being

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and move books and library materials

Ability to move media carts and assist with classroom materials as needed

Salary according to the Classified Salary Schedule

7.5 hours per day / 150 days per year / 4-day school week
