Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
In the School of Art, students study and practice visual art, art history, art education, and arts administration to develop the skills, knowledge, and critical awareness to thrive as artists, educators, scholars, and creative professionals. Students and faculty engage in a process of discovery that values art as a relational practice through material exploration and investigation of global artistic traditions, past and present. Position Summary
The School of Art at UNC Greensboro seeks a non-tenure track faculty member who will serve as Academic Professional: Assistant Professor of New Media and Design and the Assistant Digital Director. The School of Art is home to over 700 students across BFA and BA studio, arts administration, art education, and art history programs; and an MFA studio art major program.

As a 12-month faculty appointment, the Assistant Digital Director is expected to work with the School of Art’s Digital Director, faculty and the Director of Art to provide support for educational programs, which includes management, coordination, and upkeep of the digital facilities as well as advice and guidance regarding technological changes and advances. Digital facilities include approximately 150 computers across two PC and three Mac digital classrooms, the laptop cart, the digital print lab, and additional computers throughout the building dedicated to digital production, as well as digital fabrication equipment, photographic equipment, and audio/visual display equipment both here in the Gatewood building and at Greensboro Project Space, the School of Art’s downtown gallery space. This is a three-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.

The Assistant Digital Director will teach a 2/2 load across a wide array of courses in digital art. The School of Art’s New Media and Design program encompasses a range of conceptual and technological approaches relevant to contemporary art and design practices. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate education and will provide service to the university, college and/or school. Ideal candidates will have strengths in areas such as interactive art, digital art, image/video making and design. In the cover letter, candidates should describe their experience teaching diverse students, and their experience with skills-based and culturally responsive pedagogies.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage digital facilities including five computer labs and a laptop computer cart; digital printing facilities, and equipment check out.

Maintain scheduled hours in the digital studios and classrooms to assist students and faculty with application of software and digital techniques and technologies as they relate to classroom instruction.

Supervise undergraduate and graduate student assistants.

Teach two courses per semester in digital art. Specific course assignments are determined in consultation with the New Media and Design area coordinator and School of Art Director.

Maintain a working relationship with UNCG IT Services.

Continue education and remain current regarding innovations in hardware and software.

Supervision – The Assistant Digital Director position will be supervised by the Director of the School of Art.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field such as New Media or computing.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of teaching experience in digital media.

Ability to work independently without detailed supervision.
