
Assistant - Business Development

SUMMARY (Brief Summary Of Position) The General Practice ("GP") Business Development Assistant works closely with lawyers, the Business Development Department and cross-functional teams including Communications, Digital Marketing, Competitive Intelligence, Creative Services and CRM, as well as other administrative staff. This role supports the Firm’s efforts to generate new business and strengthen client relationships across the global GP Group and its related sub-groups.
The Assistant leverages strong research, writing, technical and communication skills to help execute and manage a wide range of business development initiatives. Responsibilities include coordinating practice group initiatives, supporting strategic marketing and client development efforts and collaborating with practice heads and other stakeholders to advance the Firm’s business objectives. The scheduled hours for this position are 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., however this role requires overtime work depending on the needs of the practice area lawyers and Business Development department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Pitch Materials & Client Presentations
Assist Analysts and Managers in preparing client presentations (pitch books, brochures, experience lists) that effectively communicate the Firm’s experience.
Customize materials for target clients or prospects.
Complete production tasks (editing, fact checking, proofreading, assembling) to ensure accuracy and timely delivery.
Prepare relevant research and supporting materials for client meetings.
Research & Market Trends
Identify relevant trends by industry, geography and legal practice area.
Assist with substantive industry research and help identify potential opportunities.
Assist with competitive intelligence research used to update lawyers on legal market developments.
Track news and developments relating to selected clients and regions.
Directories, Surveys & Rankings
Assist with submissions to league tables, directories, guides and other surveys.
Database, CRM & Materials Maintenance
Update and maintain standard pitch files, marketing collateral, experience lists and related databases.
Maintain a complete record of pitches, meetings and client outreach in the Firm’s CRM system.
Communications, Visibility & Events
Coordinate with Communications and Digital Marketing teams on the practice’s visibility program, including internal posts (e.g., S&C This Week), the Firm’s external website and social media.
Assist with coordinating aspects of client education conferences.
Follow Firm news, note wins and help maintain the practice experience database.
In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management.
Qualifications
Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, grammar and research skills (a writing and editing test is required).
Strong analytical and organizational abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to handle time-sensitive requests from multiple lawyers across time zones and to produce high-quality work in a fast-paced, highly demanding environment.
Strong ability to manage deadlines, prioritize effectively and plan work based on team and practice needs.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues across departments.
Strong interest in learning about corporate practice areas, a proactive work style and a desire to grow and take on new challenges.
Understanding of transactional, regulatory and litigation terminology and processes (preferred).
Proficiency with standard spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation applications (e.g., Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint), as well as online research tools and news media resources; familiarity with CRM systems is helpful. The Firm provides additional training in core software programs, as needed.
Professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree required.
Prior legal experience is beneficial but not required.

Compensation
The base salary range offered for this role will be between $61,000 and $65,000. When determining a candidate’s compensation offer, elements unique to each person are taken into consideration including but not limited to skill set, experience level, performance, professional certifications, degrees and location, as well as the needs of the Firm.
