School Bus Driver
Auxiliary Compensation Plan (180 Days) Salary Range: $24.00 - $31.14/hour Shift Type: Full-Time Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Director - Transportation EMPLOYMENT DATE TO BE DETERMINED
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide safe Transportation to students so that they may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from the district's curriculum and extra-curricular programs. To provide safe transport of students by driving in compliance with traffic regulations over specified routes according to time schedule (For Route Bus Drivers)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education/Certification: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Texas Commercial Driver's License (Class B)
- Texas Education Agency School Bus Driver Certificate
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Must pass alcohol and drug test
- Must pass the D.P.S. Medical Examination Report for School Bus Drivers. (Dated no earlier than June 1 of the present school year)
- Possess an acceptable driving record in accordance with the standards developed jointly by the Texas Education Agency and the Department of Public Safety
- Acceptable driving record according to Texas Education Agency standards
EXPERIENCE:
- None
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
- Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing bus
- Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator
- Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules
- Transport only authorized students and adult sponsors
- Communicate with school personnel and parents about student behavior while on the bus
- Assist and instruct pupils in proper loading and unloading procedures
- Assist in the loading of special education students with the wheel chair lift when needed
- Render assistance if needed when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident and administers first aid in case of accident
- Make neat, legible and accurate reports as required
- Report all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries, and complete required reports
- Abid by school district policies, state and federal laws that relate to the operation of school buses
- Maintain a good working relationship with the principals and through a cooperative effort maintains a disciplined decorum on the bus that is conducive to safety and protection of property
- Complete in-service and safety training as required by the district
- Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs
- Perform other duties as assigned

EQUIPMENT: Refueling pumps, safety and first aid equipment
