About the Role
Sierra Nevada Management Services is seeking an experienced Accounting Operations Specialist to support the accuracy, compliance, and day to day strength of our accounting function. This role sits above the Accounting Associate level and is designed for a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys owning complex processes without managing people.
The Accounting Operations Specialist plays a key role in maintaining clean financial operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and benefits administration, allowing senior accounting leadership to focus on strategic initiatives and business growth.
What You’ll Do
Accounting Operations and Oversight
Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger activity
Perform and review bank, credit card, payroll, and benefits reconciliations
Audit AP and AR transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance
Identify discrepancies, trends, and process improvement opportunities
Maintain organized, accurate financial records
Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
Provide quality control and oversight for AP and AR processes
Review vendor invoices, payments, billing activity, and aging reports
Assist with resolution of complex vendor, patient, or billing issues
Ensure timely processing and adherence to internal controls
Payroll and Benefits Administration
Serve as a payroll subject matter expert and key support resource
Act as an ADP super user, supporting payroll processing, reporting, and troubleshooting
Audit payroll reports, deductions, and benefit withholdings
Oversee benefit enrollments, terminations, changes, and reconciliations
Partner with Human Resources and benefits vendors to ensure accurate coordination
Compliance and Audit Support
Support internal and external audits related to accounting, payroll, and benefits
Assist with certified payroll reporting when applicable
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Operational Support and Projects
Provide operational coverage during staff absences or peak workloads
Support accounting operations as new services and business lines are introduced
Assist with special projects and process improvements as assigned
What We’re Looking For
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or payroll systems
Experience
3 to 5 years of general accounting experience, including journal entries and reconciliations
Payroll processing and payroll reconciliation experience required
Experience auditing AP, AR, and benefits related transactions required
Preferred Experience
Advanced experience with ADP payroll systems
Benefits administration and reconciliation experience
QuickBooks experience highly preferred but not required
Certified payroll experience
Construction or project based accounting experience
Healthcare industry experience
Education
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
