
2D Animator & Generalist Game Artist - Fully Remote Job at SOFTGAMES in New Brem

We are looking for an experienced 2D Game Animator with a generalist skillset to join our fully remote team and contribute to our brand new, unannounced title. In this role you will create quality 2D animations and VFX and, as the team’s only animator, work directly with the art lead, producer, designer, and developers to deliver high‑quality animations for UI, environments, characters, and visual effects.
Responsibilities
Gameplay Animations: Create high‑quality animations for both characters and environments.
VFX: Produce particle effects and visual effects to enhance gameplay feedback and storytelling.
UI Animations: Design UI animations that contribute to a polished and dynamic player interface.
Technical Expert: Ensure that all assets are delivered in accordance with the project’s technical requirements and pipelines.
Visual Consistency: Deliver animations and assets that are consistent with the established visual style and art direction of the game.
Feedback and Iterations: Iterate on animations and other assets based on project feedback cycles.
Engine Implementation: Work directly in Unity to create and implement animations.
2D Generalist: Support the team by creating various 2D assets, such as illustrations and icons, when needed.
AI-Workflows: Integrate AI tools into the art pipeline when possible and suitable.
Artwork Test: Completed as part of the application process.
Qualifications
Demonstrated professional experience as a 2D Animator in the games industry (portfolio or demo reel required).
Strong expertise in Spine, including advanced understanding of production workflows and animation systems.
Proficiency in Adobe After Effects or comparable software for visual effects and animation previews.
Strong understanding of animation fundamentals such as timing, weight, and motion.
Experience with Unity and engine implementation.
Ability to work within an established visual style and animation direction.
Experience creating 2D particles or hand‑drawn FX for gameplay animation.
Proficiency in digital painting using tools such as Adobe Photoshop or similar.
Professional working proficiency in English.
Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high‑quality assets within production timelines.
Based in a time‑zone with at least 4 hours overlap with Toronto, Canada.
