Overview
DSL Express is NOW HIRING OWNER OPERATORS who want to make good money with a great company! Very high percentage take home with load volume even in the worst market conditions – We keep it moving after almost 20 years in business!

Solo Owner Operator Gross Pay: Expect OTR average Gross 5K to 8K+ per week during this post-COVID market. We strive to conserve fuel and book shorter runs (2000 to 3000 miles per week).

Most average owners on an average week running average loads earn 6k to 7k weekly even in this market.

Team drivers may earn about 1.7x more gross per peak, peaking around 13k per week; we may or may not hire teams. The market is currently supporting shorter runs (300 to 600 miles) and is not conducive to team driving.

Regions

Lower 48 with a primary focus on Midwest, East, Southeast, South, Southwest, and West regions. Optional Canadian loads are offered to qualified applicants. Some routes have changed as of 08/12/24; ask about current routes.

Gross Earnings

Normally $260,000 to $364,000 per year gross.

Job Description & Requirements

Must have Class A CDL. Additional endorsements are a bonus.

Must have 2+ years of CDL experience.

Must have clean MVR and a reasonable PSP report.

Must have a reliable tractor; trailer rentals are available if you don’t own one.

Compensation & Benefits

High payout percentages; better than industry rate. 82% of line haul; 18/82 split in your favor (we cover cargo and liability).

Liability and cargo insurance included; no separate deduction.

Option for 88% of line haul with a $250 deduction for cargo and liability insurance weekly.

Trailer tags covered and paid by us with trailer rentals; optional to use our insurance broker rates for Bobtail and other coverages.

Hazard and occupational insurance available as a deduction (optional); weekly deduction programs for insurance and some expenses (if needed).

Fuel card discounts (30 cent off cash price); bonuses for safety and DOT inspections.

Weekly direct deposit and bank transfers; gross earnings indicated as 5K to 8K+ per week in typical markets.

Summary of Other Incentives

Hometime is 100% negotiable; unlimited miles within ELD compliance; no touch freight; no forced dispatch for owner-operators.

Dry vans and refer; no flatbeds or dangerous tankers; drop and hook paused as of 08/12/24; we do live load/unload.

Dedicated dispatcher; 24/7 on-call dispatch; contracts with NTS breakdown service; park with rented trailer near home for home time.

Doesn’t matter where you live; Midwest preferred but not required. Riders allowed with a waiver and rider policy.

Driver Requirements

Reasonable health and willingness to work; must be at least 23 years old; 2+ years of driving experience.

Valid CDL Class A without pending suspensions; able to work with modern ELD systems; able to pass a drug test.

Valid medical card; stable work history with good references; no more than 3 moving violations/accidents in the last 3 years.

No failed or refused drug/alcohol test in the last 4 years; no DWI/DUI or BAC in the last 4 years; no reckless driving in the last 3 years.

No license suspension for points or unpaid tickets in the last 3 years; no more than 2 moving violations in the last year.

Provide at least 3 years of work history; verification of previous employers and references; non-driving work history for the past 3 years may be verified.

Gross Earnings Explained:

We base the normal solo driver gross earnings on $5,000 to $8,000+ per week, with loads booked around 2.30+ per mile (weekly averages with front and back haul). Rates vary by freight demand, season, location, and market conditions. Some periods may yield higher rates; earnings depend on availability and miles driven. Our dispatch team works to maximize top-dollar year-round. The more you drive, the more you make—as partners, the more we all earn.
