Marymount seeks to hire an experienced French Teacher who inspires a love of language and culture and is committed to creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment for high school students.
Position Summary
The High School French Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous instruction in French language and culture to students in grades 9–12. The teacher fosters proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The position supports the school’s mission by creating an inclusive, student-centered learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and deliver effective French language instruction aligned with curriculum standards
Teach courses ranging from introductory to advanced or AP French
Develop lesson plans that incorporate speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
Assess student progress through quizzes, exams, projects, and presentations
Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate progress with families
Create a classroom environment that supports diverse learners and encourages active participation
Integrate cultural, historical, and contemporary perspectives of French-speaking countries
Maintain accurate grading, attendance, and academic records
Collaborate with the Modern Language Department Chair and colleagues on curriculum development
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
Uphold school policies and expectations for student behavior and academic integrity

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in French, World Languages, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
Demonstrated fluency in spoken and written French
Minimum of 3-5 years of previous high school teaching experience
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Ability to engage and motivate adolescent learners
Preferred Skills and Attributes
Experience with AP, preferred
Familiarity with proficiency-based instruction and assessment
Commitment to culturally responsive teaching practices
Willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities or language clubs
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom for extended periods
Ability to speak clearly and audibly for instruction
Ability to use standard classroom technology
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
