About the Program
The Summer Media Institute (SMI) at Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) is a 6-week in-person deep-dive into media production and storytelling for teens. We employ 25-30 young people as “Media Artists” from July 6 to August 14, 2026 as a worksite for the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program. The goal of SMI is to empower youth to independently produce creative work from start to finish, and to explore their creative voice. SMI focuses especially on digital film / video production and is committed to providing quality, equitable learning experiences to diverse populations.
About the Teaching Artist role
Teaching Artists (TAs) are an integral part of SMI and CCTV. TAs are both mentors and teachers, leading students through media production workshops and projects. This is an exciting opportunity to share your passions and expertise, collaborate with other media professionals, and develop experience in teaching, mentorship, and curriculum development. July 6 - August 14: 20 - 30 hours / week.
Mandatory in-person hours: 9AM-3PM Monday and Friday, 9AM-2PM Tuesday - Thursday.
Additional 8-10 hours of orientation and training (May + June), and end-of-program debrief (August).
Pay
This part-time position pays $25/hr. Teaching Artists will be paid for all work, orientation, and training (up to 30 hours/week).

Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) is a public access media station providing equipment, classes, studio space, and youth programs to the Cambridge community and beyond. CCTV fosters free speech, civic engagement, and creative expression while connecting people to collaboratively produce media that is responsive, relevant, and effective in a fast-changing technological environment. CCTV's Youth Media Program has a 35 year history and offers year-round media arts programs primarily for high school students, but for all youth 4 - 24.
Required Qualifications
Belief in the power of community-centered media work, youth development, and quality learning experiences
Positive energy, community-centered mindset, strong work ethic, active listening
Experience with instruction, teaching, tutoring, summer camp, or mentorship with young people.
Fluency with at least one phase of media production (ideally all):
(1) pre-production (screenwriting, playwriting, storyboarding, etc.), (2) production (camera operation, audio recording, directing, production design, lighting, crewing on a film set, etc.), (3) post-production (video editing, color correction/grading, sound design and mixing, motion graphics, etc.)
Can easily commute to Cambridge for in-person work every day
Familiarity with Google Drive: creating slideshows, documents, spreadsheets, and an organized file structure.
Preferred Qualifications
Fluency with all aspects of media production, especially cinematography
Experience with editing using Adobe Premiere Pro
Experience with After Effects and Lightroom
Public speaking and/or leadership experience
Experience working with diverse populations of youth
Expectations for Teaching Artists
Before SMI:
Participate in-person for all orientation, training, and curriculum development meetings
Pitch and develop ideas for curriculum based on TA’s relevant interests and experiences
Get trained on video production equipment and spaces at CCTV
All TAs will be run through CORI System
During SMI:
100% present and available in-person from 9AM-3PM Monday and Friday, 9AM-2PM Tuesday - Thursday,
Lead teens in group projects (5-7 teens), and provide individualized support to students
Develop and facilitate workshops about media-related topics
Oversee daily check-ins and check-outs with students to de-brief about the day’s schedule, successes and challenges
Facilitate events like screenings and critique sessions
Logistics and planning:
Manage facility and equipment distribution
Prepare reel and final screening, with other staff
Oversee preparation of videos for post-program distribution
Attend two weekly staff meetings
After SMI:
One in-person wrap-up meeting the week of August 17th, 2026 to de-brief program
Overall conduct:
Be professional, community-oriented, respectful, and kind in all interactions with students, staff, and community partners
Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for all participants regardless of background, identity, or experience level.
Be punctual, prepared, communicative, and reliable
